One other question, what is the difference between computer engineering and computer science? I am very fond of computers and hardware especially, but also do have an interest in software.

hello? o.o

I don’t have enough experience with UMD admissions to chance but I know the difference between computer engineering and computer science. Engineering basically focuses on computer hardware and software, like building a computer. Computer science focuses on programming language, algorithms, etc. You can Google for info about the two majors if you would like to know more about them.

both of them do have bright outlooks in terms of getting a job in the future right?

hi??

I don’t usually reply to “chance me” threads, but for whatever reason, I’lol help you out here.

I am a senior right now, and have already accepted my offer to UMD for ECE. Based on what I’ve gathered from my own research (when I was a junior such as yourself) and my own experience, your stats seem fine. However, this is not a guarantee of admission, especially considering that I am NOT affiliated with the admissions team at UMD.

Nonetheless, you should be fine, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to get a better SAT score. Also, make sure you continue to take challenging classes (AP, honors, etc.).

Additionally, both CS and CE/ECE have very good employment outlooks for the next 10 years or so. If you’re truly interested in CS however, do note that the CS department at UMD is not within the engineering school. It is a part of the Math and Natural Sciences school, which if I remember correctly is not a Limited Enrollment Program like the engineering school.

Hope I could help.

hmm alright, im hoping to get atleast a 1400 on the math + cr this time. And to do CS is also LEP? i didn’t know that,
thanks for the information! maryland is definitely my first choice school as it is instate (cheaper) and it is a great computer school.

@b3jh24 do you mind telling me your stats?
