Chance it up

White male from rural south

Grades and stuff:
-Weighted GPA: 4.34, 4.0 unweighted (weighted will likely continue to rise with more APs)
-Class rank: 3rd
-SAT: 1570 (770 on reading and writing, 800 on math), Essay: 8 on reading, 7 on analysis, 8 on writing
Will likely take SAT subject tests for world history, biology, or spanish
-Plan to complete 11 APs- all 5s so far
-Have a state bi-literacy seal for Spanish

Extra curricular things:
-Cross country/track and field- will be varsity for four years, state qualifier/all state in cross and track, captain in track this year, will be xc captain next year. 4:24 mile so far (have a chance to run for some of these schools), I run 50 miles per week, so this takes up a lot of time
-Spanish National Honor Society
-Spanish Governor’s school
-Academic team- state qualifying team
-50 hours volunteering for my state’s natural heritage program (weird stuff, like surveying beetle populations)- I plan to do a lot more this summer
-have lived in Italy/speak Italian-may take a language test to document this if it’s worth it

No idea what I want to study. May choose a school where I can run, depending on Sr. year times.

I’m interested in:

Princeton
UVA
Brown
Berkeley
Davidson
Duke
Williams

Not really sure how to pick a good safety school though, as I feel like these are all lottery situations even if qualified.

Oh wait: Add Georgetown to that list

All UCs would be a good start for safety schools. Those don’t need an extra application. I think you have a good application as is.

If you’re able to make it onto their track teams, that would be even better. Simply said, you’re almost guaranteed a spot if you’re able to match or surpass their average track running times for freshmen. (this is according to my friends who have gotten into top ivy+ colleges with good grades and good athletic abilities)

Out of that list you could get into UVA. The rest… your SAT is high enough that it’s not a barrier, but the rest of your application is not good enough. Your extracurriculars are pretty bland relative to what most kids who get into those schools have. In order to actually have an admissions benefit, you’d better hope you run like 4:08 this season.

You are a competitive applicant. Your stats and ECs are great. Write good essays and you could get accepted by any of these schools
