Since I see UIUC, are you planning to major in engineering?
@NASA2014 i will be majoring in either computer engineering or comp sci… most probably comp sci
If you hit a 34 on the ACT or 2200+ SAT, I am confident that you have a very good chance at getting accepted to nearly every single school on your list. I think UMichigan might be a bit tough, but maybe you could apply early decision for a better chance. Good Luck!
my main choice of school is umd, do i really need a 34 or a 2200+ to get in there?
Just go hard over the summer and kill the SAT. It would seriously make you so much more competitive. You might even have a short at CMU or Berkeley then.
ive been studying for the SAT… and for the life of me i cannot get my critical reading up… however ACT critical reading seems to work better with me… i may just give up on the SAT and study my ass off for the ACT to try and get a 33
If you get a 33+ on the ACT, than just forget about the SAT and submit your ACT score instead. Focus on EITHER the ACT or the SAT, don’t try to do both. Also, aim for a 770+ on the SAT subject tests. I think your biggest weakness is your extracurricular activities. While they are decent, they’re not very deep and won’t stand out from the thousands of other applicants. However, you’re definitely a strong candidate nevertheless for most schools. If you go and kill the ACT I’m sure you can make into most of the schools you listed. Best of luck to you.
Chance me back please?

I’m not that familiar with any of these schools besides maybe UMich (which is probably a reach for you since you’re OOS). SAT scores probably need to be raised at least 100 points to be a more competitive candidate there, but a 32-33 on the ACT would be great.
UIUC might be great for you, but i’d take that SAT up again
Focus on the ACT. Since you’ve established one worked better than the other for you, work on the ACT and take relevant subject tests to complement even if the colleges you’re applying to don’t require them from ACT takers.
Remember to cast a wide net though since the majors you’re contemplating are super selective (ie., much more selective than typical admissions at most universities you’re considering.)
Michigan is going to be the toughest one, but if you get that 33, you should have a good chance. Good luck!
I think you have a good chance at all of these schools, especially if you end up getting a 33!
what do you guys think my chance is at u Mass amherst for CS?
