Chance me all Ivy Leagues, UCs, and some other private schools

Hi everyone!

I'm new to CC, so help me out here.

I'm a senior at a K-12 private school in SoCal. I started taking Algebra and Latin in 6th grade, and continued from there.

I plan on majoring in either Political Science, Philosophy, Pure Mathematics, or Physics, but I'm not sure which one I'd love most.

-(AP) Latin
-(AP) Biology
-(AP) World History
-(P) Health/ (AP) Human Geography
-(H) Math Analysis
-(H) English I

-(AP) Chemistry
-(AP) European History
-(AP) Computer Science
-(AP) Calculus bc
-(AP) Art History
-(H) English II

-(AP) Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism
-(AP) Physics C: Mechanics
-(AP) English Language
-(AP) United States History
-(AP) Statistics
-(AP) Environmental Science
-(CC) Linear Algebra/ (CC) Differential Equations

-(AP) Physics 1
-(AP) Physics 2
-(AP) English Literature
-(AP) United States Government/ (AP) Comparative Government
-(AP) Macroeconomics/ (AP) Microeconomics
-(AP) Psychology/ (P) Advanced Public Speaking
-(CC) Multivariable Calculus/ (CC) Discrete Structures

NOTE: this is without A-s. I've gotten a few of those
GPA: 4.0
UC GPA: 4.30
10-11 weighted: 4.92
9-11 weighted: 4.87
My SAT is a 2360 (m/w/cr 800/800/780) Darn you, critical reading!
My ACT is a 36.
Which should I submit?! Would it benefit me to submit both?

Except for Environmental Science (4), my AP test scores have all been 5s thus far.

My SAT Subject Tests...
Freshman Year
-(800) World History
-(800) Molecular Biology
-(770) Latin

Sophomore Year

-(800) Chemistry
-(800) Math II

Junior Year

-(800) Physics
-(760) Literature should I submit??! I know it's high, but considering the rest of my scores, I feel as if it'd weight it down
-(800) United States History

SO yeah, I've taken eight SAT subject tests...should I submit them all? My reasoning would be that if I submit all eight, they'd think that I'm some kind of testing machine, rather than a person. I'm thinking of dropping World History, Latin, and Molecular Biology, so my imperfections would show.

Ethnicity: Caucasian.
Income Bracket: 300-350 thousand a year.
Community Service Hours: ~650.
Hook: I have cerebral palsy in my right hand.

I'm not applying EA or ED anywhere... this is because of my Physics 2 grade right now... What happened was that I had a high A until late October. I learned of an exam the night before, so I attended all my classes that day except for Physics. My teacher found out and reported me... so I got an F for that exam. I right now have a D :/.

Extra Curricular Activities:
-Captain of Speech and Debate since sophomore year
-VP Poetry slam since sophomore year
-Peer counselor since sophomore year
-FBLA since freshman year
-Mock trial since freshman year
-Interned at my county's newspaper service. Wrote a few articles (and had a few written about me :P)
-Announcer for my hs' Football and Baseball team since sophomore year
-JV Basketball as a freshman and sophomore.
-Varsity Basketball since junior year.
-Went to summer camp since freshman year, and was a counselor last year.
-Animal Shelter since junior year.
-Paid basketball referee since sophomore year
-Worked at my local falafel restaurant since second semester junior year

By the way, I'd imagine my letters of rec to be 9/10--especially from my basketball coach and last year's physics teacher.

Where I'm applying (in order of preference):

-Harvard College
-MIT
-Cal Tech
-Stanford
-Deep Springs College
-Yale University
-Cornell
-Dartmouth
-Brown
-Princeton
-Berkeley
-UCLA
-Michigan
-U Chicago
-Claremont McKenna

Also, besides that... what would you guys reccomend I do about my physics grade? Should I approach my teacher? He doesn't really know me, and takes what I did personally... I wouldn't know where to start. It was my first time ditching, and from what I'd heard, nobody really gets caught doing so (not to defend my actions, or anything)...

Thanks! :)

What a Harsh(or insecure?) teacher! You must have been unlucky to be caught…

All I would recommend about your teacher is to visit the office-with an appointment, of course-give him an explanation(apologetic, but don’t make it SOUND full of excuse) that you were completely unaware of the test and that it is nothing personal. Just saying “sorry” won’t cut. If he doesn’t accept the apology, then there isn’t really anything you can’t do. Did you ask him for a recommendation? If he doesn’t accept your apology. I wouldn’t get LOR from him.

You have a fabulous numbers, but ECs aren’t good enough to compete with other Ivy league applicants…I guess except UCB and UCLA, all the others are reaches, not only they are very hard but also because of your ECs.(and UMich is harsh on OOS) Unless you have a sparkling kick butt essays and recommendations, it will be very hard. However, if your cerebral palsy is severe enough to make it hard to do any other ECs, it won’t affect you so negatively as it would without a disability.

UCLA and UCB may be high match/matches. I think you also need to consider UCI and UCSD.

Except DSC, all of them are top schools. Are you sure that you are content with going to DSC if you don’t get accepted in any other school? Why don’t you consider schools like Washu?

Paul, what do you mean his ECs aren’t good enough? What else can a kid possibly add to their application? If these truly are your credentials than you are a shoe in for just about anywhere.

Tha’ts why I said: However, if your cerebral palsy is severe enough to make it hard to do any other ECs, it won’t affect you so negatively as it would without a disability.

I know I shouldn’t expect much from a person who can’t move his arms freely! I was saying that his ECs wouldn’t be good enough if his body condition were fine, which he isn’t in this case.

Oh, it’s just right hand. It’s a deformity, kind of just stuck in a way where it looks like I broke all my fingers. I also can’t really move it. I usually just wear a splint, and when people ask, I just say that I broke my hand playing basketball XD.

http://www.pediatric-orthopedics.com/Treatments/CP_Hand/BBb.jpg</a>

Kind of like that^, except I can wear it better. lol.

It’s not like my cerebral palsy makes it that much more difficult to do things. I can manage with one hand, for the most part. I play basketball, workout, can max at around 80wpm with one hand on the computer, I regularly drive, swim, etc…

Should I start a non-profit or something? I’ve spend vast amounts of time on all my ECs, but I wouldn’t mind just grinding some new things in there.

And concerning my teacher, he sent me to the VP office when I showed up to class the next day (Halloween). He means business. I’d love to talk to him and be sincere, but it might not work (knock on wood).

And I’m asking last year’s Physics teacher for a letter of rec  He retired, so I visited him and asked, and told me he’d love to.

Should I bring up, when talking to this year’s physics teacher, anything about him being new? Would it help me? Or kind of put me in a clutch? I’m hoping my genuine apology might help me. I tried talking to him after-school on friday, and he told me he’d talk to me on Wednesday. (:(

I think you need to apologize, and don’t mention about him being a new teacher or something. That will, no matter how you phrase it, sound nothing more than ‘you are the reason’ to that teacher.

Just say you are very sorry for upsetting him, and make sure that he understand it’s nothing personal at all. Dont’ say anything like “you are a new teacher”, “my ex teacher was better” something like that. K? I m glad to heat that your palsy isn’t super difficult to manage.

Regarding ECs, there isn’t much to do at this point other than grinding in a single or two activities that you are the most passionate about

Harvard College - Good Chance, Slight Reach

Your EC’s are average for applicants. I would DEFINITELY approach your teacher about it. Tell her that this can potentially ruin your college acceptances, and she might understand. Obviously apologize, and be willing to take a penalty of at least 10% on the test. As for the schools, I would say this:

-Harvard College - Mid Reach
-MIT - Mid Reach
-Cal Tech - Mid Reach
-Stanford - Mid Reach
-Deep Springs College - Safety
-Yale University - Mid Reach
-Cornell - Low Reach
-Dartmouth - Low Reach
-Brown - Low Reach
-Princeton - Mid Reach
-Berkeley - Match
-UCLA - Match
-Michigan - Match
-U Chicago - Low Reach
-Claremont McKenna - High Match

I’m curious, what does “GPA without A-s” mean? My son’s GPA without A-s or lower is pretty darn good too!

And hmmm, if you have a 2380 but can’t add up your three scores right, I smell a large Norwegian folklore creature who might just live under a bridge.

And you only have six Ivies listed, where are the other two? Do you get the concept of “all”?

You definitely seem qualified. However, one key thing you must realize is that even top applicants that are qualified don’t get accepted into some of these schools. You definitely have a shot, but in no way can I guarantee it.

They’ll definitely enjoy seeing your KILLER scores and extracurriculars!

Colleges like seeing a well-rounded applicant. Since you seem to match those guidelines, I’d say you have a great shot.

Good Luck!

@rhandco, I’ve gotten a few A-s, especially my freshman year. I was trying to say that my school doesn’t award 3.7s for A-s.

And I got a 2360 on my SAT, not a 2380. I didn’t catch that.

I understand the concept of “all” ivies, thanks for asking. Should’ve changed “all” to most. My bad.

Thanks for catching that, broheim.

And thank you @homsa! I’ll chance you back. Hopefully, I get a few acceptances crosses fingers.
