Yeah… you’re fine. I’d aim higher, if I were you–in terms of academics, American pales in comparison with Georgetown and GWU. What’s your SAT/ACT score, even if you’ll be applying to test-optional schools?

They are low. I am applying to both Georgetown and GW but my odds getting in their I have heard are both good and bad. SAT is 1450 and ACT is 20…these tests are not a good representation of my academic ability, therefore I have applied under the Test-Optional program at AU.

eeeek. that’s a lot lower than i’d thought… yeah, to be frank, you don’t have much of a chance at either with a 20. sorry, bud ):

join the ussyp facebook group

Definitely in at American. Where else are you applying?

In. I would also look at higher ranked schools that are test optional.

Im applying to Georgetown, Seattle University, University of Washington, Catholic University of America, George Washington university, and American University…obviouslly. I was looking into University of Chicago and UC Berkely, LA, and Santa Barbara. It seems that I dont fit in at the highest universities like IVY or Yale, etc. but I also dont fit in at schools like American…any idea what schools there are that fit me…? thanks

Try Wake Forest, another score optional school

I think American is taking some rather unfair bashing here. When my daughter was applying a year ago, we worried a little bit about whether AU was “good enough.” We thought of it as her safety. She visited AU several times (in this respect, living near Washington, DC, instead of Washington State is a huge advantage) and found the students smart and serious. She and we talked to other students who had objective stats that could have gotten them in elsewhere, and they were happy with American and happy with their classmates.

I don’t mean to suggest that American is just as good as Georgetown. I mean to say only that it isn’t a school for stupid people, as some here seem to imply.

Costanzo, you seem to be interested in going to college in DC. If you’re also interested in government and politics, AU is a good choice–as are GW and Georgetown. AU has the advantage of allowing you to apply without submitting your standardized test scores. Being in the top 10% of your high school class, with some APs, makes you a really strong candidate for AU. You may be offered some honors or some merit aid. I don’t think it makes you preposterously overqualified.

I think you will definitelly get in American and wouldn’t be surprised if you got some scholarship money too! Because of your sat scores all those that you sent them to I do not think you’ll get in the others,
chance me?

Based off my Naviance, other students from my school made it with GPA’s between 3.2-3.6 and you’re definitely a solid match there. Excellent extracurriculars as well. Technically you are below American’s 25th percentile for test scores but if I’m not mistaken, American has a test optional route so that shouldn’t be a problem!

So if you apply test optional you should be a lock. Good luck! I’m also interested in American University, mind chancing me back as well?
