Chance me and I will love you forever*

*Restrictions may apply

Hi,

Our seniors have graduated, and now it is setting in that college application season is about to begin. I would really appreciate some chances, and I will chance back if you leave me a link. Please be honest :)

My stats:

Junior this year at a Newsweek top 20 school, USNWR top 10 school.
GPA: 4.0 Unweighted (our school does not assign weight)
ACT: 33 (retaking with hopes of a 34)
SAT IIs: Taking them in Math II, Bio, and Literature
State of Residency (if it helps): Michigan

Class difficulty:
9th and 10th: All honors courses, all considered "pre-IB". I took AP Calc AB in 10th grade, received a 5.

11th: Full IB course load. 3 sciences: IB Bio, Chem and Physics. IB SL Math, IB Lit, IB History, IB Spanish, and TOK. Dual enrolled for a statistics class at a local university first semester.

12th: Courses will stay the same.

Academic Awards:
Top Science Award
Summa Cum Laude

ECs:

MUN club president, many awards in MUN

Spanish Honors Society (Officer)

NHS

Science Olympiad Officer (Experimental Design is so much fun!)

Youth Symphony (next year is my 5th year, I'm the principle horn player)

Volunteer Work

Student gov (secretary for three years)

100ish hours of volunteering at nursing home

Youth Leadership Project: Investigated problems related to poverty, hunger, and
homelessness on a local and international level for the course of the year. It was thought inspiring.

Will be attending TASP this summer (Telluride Association Summer Program for Juniors)

The List:

Harvard (Legacy, Grandfather was a prof here)
Brown PLME (I would hate to not at least try)
Washington and Lee (trying for Johnson scholarship)
Davidson (trying for Belk scholarship)
Duke (trying for Robertson scholarship)
Yale (grandfather attended, but I don't think that means I am a legacy)
Vanderbilt (trying for Commodore scholarship)
Cornell (It's so pretty, but expensive!)

If possible I am interested in my chances to receive scholarships at each of the schools.

Thanks! Remember, I'll chance back! Also, if you have school suggestions I would be interested :)

Harvard-15% (would be lower, but you have legacy)
Brown-15%
Washington and Lee-40%
Davidson-Don’t know much about
Duke-25%
Yale-10%
Vanderbilt-75%-85%
Cornell-45%

You should get into at least Vanderbilt and probably 1-2 others.

You have a strong profile. If you can raise your ACT (or try the SAT) I think you’ll have a good shot at many schools. TASP is a great accomplishment.

Getting a Robertson is another things (I think you’ll need to REALLY raise the score) and show real passion and accomplishmenyt in some EC. And for Harvard I hope you mean a parent attended and your grandad was a prof because the later doesn’t give you a legacy tag.

^ My mom went to Harvard, and my grand dad taught there for long time.

How high of an ACT would I need to get a Robertson? (SAT is not for me, as evidenced by my sub par PSAT score) I can maybe get up to a 34, but a 35 is really tricky…

I hate the fact that so much weight is placed on such subjective standardized tests.

hmmm i dont know much about IB, because my school doesnt offer it, but you seem like a pretty well rounded applicant to me

i would say likely for Duke, Vandy, and def Davidson…im not sure your scores are good enough for money, however (and believe me i feel your pain)

cornell is a likely-ish school idk

and then harvard and yale DEFINITELY reaches (they are for everyone) and brown a reach

I really feel your legacy and tha fact that you’re in an amazingly distinguished high school will help you; your ACT score and extracurriculars are great also (the acceptance to TASP is just the icing on the cupcake!). As for IB classes, I’m not really familiar, so I’m sorry I can’t really comment on them.

I personally think you have a 70+ percent chance of getting into W&L, Davidson & Vanderbilt… but the others are more of a crapshoot.

-Without the scholarships
Harvard - around 20%
Brown - just normally - around 20% (considering your pretty fantastic stats)
PLME - probably around 12-15%
Duke - 35%
Yale - 12-15%
Cornell - 35-40%

I think you have a higher chance than people are giving you credit for, but that’s typical on CC. Brown PLME is the biggest reach, but if you apply ED you have a better shot. Also, Harvard is a MUCH higher chance because they love legacies.

^ Would you be willing to assign percentage chances?

If not, that’s fine. Yeah I’ve been on CC for 2 years and what I’ve learned is that people give the most conservative estimates possible for chances in order to avoid getting someone’s hopes up too high, which I can respect. I would hate to go into the process thinking I would get into every school I apply to and exit the process with very different results…

Harvard: 25%
Brown PLME: 10%
Washington and Lee: 40%
Davidson: ???
Duke: 30%
Yale: 15%
Vanderbilt: 35%
Cornell: 35%

All of those values are calculated for your chances at getting a scholarship.

Harvard: Not really sure how legacy works but 10-20%
Brown PLME: 5-10%
Washington and Lee: 50%
Davidson: 75%
Duke: 25%
Yale: 10%
Vanderbilt: 75%
Cornell: 40%

You seem to be an above average applicant but not outstanding, so most of the ivy leagues seems to be low reaches/high matches I would say.

I think you have good shots at all of them but what do I know, I can’t get my own act together. Also, nice, we’re both MUN club presidents and Andrew Bird fans.

:P

I say you have a 97% chance of getting into Harvard. Seriously, your mother went there, your grandfather taught there, and you have a fairly impressive resume. Don’t go by the predictions these people make.

I thin everyone is under rating your chances at Harvard as a legacy. Good grades at strong high school (but let’s face it, those lists don’t even include the top high schools that feed into ivies) with I’m assuming the hardest classes, TASP and legacy. If you can get the scores into Harvard ranges–I would work like mad for a 35 and 750 plus on the SATII’s–I’d put your chances at more like 55%.

Nobody has a 97% chance at Harvard.

Was that a joke?

Harvard: 30% you have a hook here which might help you a lot but it’s still Harvard
Brown PLME: 25% so many people apply to Brown but you are a strong applicant
Washington and Lee: 60%-70%
Davidson: 45%
Duke: 45%
Yale: 25% since your grandpa went there and you have a really solid profile
Vanderbilt: 50%
Cornell: 35%-40%, it’s still an Ivy but a little bit lower than others

I would say you are pretty much in the range of Harvard, Yale, Brown and you are advantageous with a hook to Harvard and Yale. Other non-Ivy schools on your lists are in your hand. As long as you write good essay, have good interview, I say you would be in most of those schools.

Good luck !!!

I am unfamiliar with the selection process for these scholarships so i can only chance you for the school itself
Harvard- 25-30%
Brown PLME- 20-25%
Washington and Lee- 50-55%
Davidson- 55-60%
Duke- 35-40%
Yale 20-25%
Vanderbilt 45-50%
Cornell- 40-45%

I thinks you’ll get into a couple of these though i do recommend you throw in a safety or two.
I wish you luck!!

Would be helpful if you had some SATII grades to show but…

Harvard (Legacy, Grandfather was a prof here)- 40% if you EA. The legacy counts most for early applications.
Brown PLME (I would hate to not at least try)- 15% These special programs are always a huge gamble.
Yale (grandfather attended, but I don’t think that means I am a legacy)- The legacy counts, 30%
Cornell (It’s so pretty, but expensive!)- 50%

Sorry, not familiar with the scholarships attached to some of the schools, if that affects it at all.

Cool! My friend’s going to TASP. It’s really hard to get into, so congrats!

Harvard: 20% (legacy is a BIG help)
Brown: 30%
Washington and Lee: 50%
Davidson: 50%
Duke: 35%
Yale: 20%
Vanderbilt: 60%
Cornell: 40%

Are you guys serious? Sure, 97% was exaggerated, but there’s at least a 50% chance of getting into Harvard. LEGACY. HELLO.

Thanks!

I hope that legacy status at Yale counts significantly as well! If I apply Early Action to Yale, will that increase my chances?
