<p>Honors/Awards</p>

<p>*Michigan School and Band/Orchestra Association awards for the past 6-7 years. Have recieved the highest (division 1) ratings at these events
*South Eastern Michigan Flute Association award for being one the of the six accepted into the competition
*GPA award for maintaining 3.8 or above</p>

<p>Recs/Essays</p>

<p>*Will recieve one from a math dept. teacher and an english teacher. Hopefully will be good.
*Waiting for Common App to be released in August</p>

<p>Additional Information</p>

<p>*I want people to chance me because I am afraid my scores are not good enough even though I have an excellent hook. I have average scores and I am wondering if the schools I am applying at might overlook this for my hook.</p>

<p>Its always a gamble with these really high-ranked schools, but I don’t think your chances are awful. You are probably a more competitive candidate than most.</p>

<p>I think you have a good chance of getting into Michigan especially with music… for these others schools I would say that you need to raise your ACT school by at least 1 point which shouldn’t be too hard. Other than that you have good ECs and awards. </p>

WashU, Johns, Duke, Dartmouth, and UPenn are all very difficult to get in… you have the GPA… but try to have more leadership and better ACT scores. You should get into at least one of those schools, but why not look at Emory? It’s easier to get into than the others and you have a great shot.</p>

*Johns Hopkins University + Peabody Conservatory- I’m not very familiar with how competitive the Peabody Conservatory is.</p>

<p>As far as these:
*Washington University in St. Louis
*Duke University
*Dartmouth College
*UPenn
These are all reaches. Your ACT and SAT IIs are pretty low for these schools.</p>

<p>I agree with what others here have said. You are most likely in at Michigan and are a viable candidate for the others if you raise your ACT a little. Those schools are pretty much a reach for anyone so it is hard to classify them as anything other than that. Your music looks great and will contribute substantially.</p>

<p>Your obvious depth in flute lessons is a great thing and you are clearly a very bright student!!! :smiley:
My only concern is, as you’ve said, your test scores. I feel like Duke, Dartmouth, Penn, and WashU will place HUGE emphasis on these scores because they are soooo competetive!
Is there any chance you can retake? I managed to raise my SAT score almost 200 points in a month, maybe you can too.</p>

<p>I’d say you’re probably an average candidate for such great schools (although you’d be a fabulous candidate for others!)
If you emphasize your music experience in your essays and application, you might be picked to fill a certain niche.

<p>My hook is flute and music in general. How much do I need to raise my ACT score? And peabody is extremely competitive.</p>
