I've taken the hardest classes offered by my school and have done fairly well on the AP tests. I know nothing really stands out for me -especially the SAT I's, but I've taken them twice now and am not sure if I should take them again. I'm feeling pretty confident about my upcoming ACTs, I think I can do better on them than the SATs. Colleges that I'm considering:

University of Pennsylvania
Washington University in St. Louis
Wake Forest
Rice University
Emory University
Dartmouth
Stanford

Could you also recommend some safeties for me? I have a few instate colleges that I can rely on, but I'd like some more options.

Thank you very much!

University of Pennsylvania: Slight Reach
Washington University in St. Louis: High Match
Wake Forest: In
Rice University: High Match
Emory University: High Match
Dartmouth: Slight Reach
Stanford: Reach

You have a decent list. You might consider Northwestern and Duke, they are very similar to those on your list and would be a good hedge if Stanford, Dartmouth, and Penn don't pan out. As a safety I would apply to Michigan this October, get in rolling, then forget all about safeties.

Thanks for the reply! (and sorry for the delayed response)

So what do you think the odds are of me NOT getting into any of the high match/reach colleges I listed? This is the one thing that's scaring me most right now. Also, how much would getting roughly a 34 on the ACT help me?

Any help please?

Hey,
I'm sure you'll get into one of those awesome schools but you asked for safety! you may consider U Mich, U of WA (Very good school for math and science and you'd get in), and maybe UMASS?
Also, if you went to UMASS you could take classes at Amherst, Smith, Holyoke, and Hampshire. Good luck!!!

GPA is barely marginal for Rice.. most acceptees have a 3.85+

Thanks for the info so far, but just one more question. I've heard that some colleges don't factor in 9th grade GPAs in the overall high school GPA - is this true? If so, then my overall GPA would be in the 3.95~ range, which may help me in getting into these colleges. Also, do you think that I'm likely to get into a few of the high match colleges? I know geranium answered already, but more opinions couldn't hurt, and I'm not exactly sure on what a high match translates to percentage wise.

bump (last questions, I promise)

@ sghod1212: yes some college do not factor in 9th grade GPA but i know for a fact Rice DOES factor it in. But college do , however, recalculate your GPA without your electives/core classes so that maybe bump your GPA up a bit.
A match school is a school where your stats are almost in the 75th percentile or greater and your essay is , and i quote, "ballin'"
