Essays should be unique, Interview should go well, but no hooks :(

Chances for these schools in order of preference:
(1) Yale
(2) Columbia
(3) Princeton
(4) MIT
(5) UPenn
(6) Dartmouth
(7) Cornell
(8) Lehigh
(9) Washington U

According to the ingenious “self-chancing tool” created by CC’er silverturtle, you have a 75% chance of admission to Yale and Princeton, which is ridiculously high for an Asian. Congratulations on all your success throughout high school, if you’ve really accomplished all this. I’m in awe :D

Yale - low reach
Columbia - low reach
Princeton - low reach
MIT - low reach
Penn - good match
Dartmouth - low reach
Cornell - good match
Lehigh - good match
Washington U - good match

Best of luck! (Not that you’ll need any).

haha seriously? that’s awesome! btw, any chance you could send it to me?

any other chancers?

bumpppppp. please chance!

I wouldn’t take that too seriously ^^^^^^

That’s PURELY data based, and doesn’t take anything else into consideration. Pretty much, all applicants to Yale/Princeton are Salutarions, 4.0 GPAs, 2400 SATs… so yeah, not 75%.

Your volunteer hours are phenomenal, usually people log in at like 100-300 hours, but 500+ hours is great. SAT scores are pretty good too. Your EC’s show passion, and pretty good leadership. If you can tie your passion in your EC’s into your essays, then… i can’t even tell you how good it’d be.
Get good letter of recs too.

(1) Yale- reach, but like all HYPSM, crapshot for everyone
(2) Columbia- same
(3) Princeton- same, but like… moreish
(4) MIT- same
(5) UPenn- kinda a lower reach, but not fully ‘low reach’
(6) Dartmouth- reachy
(7) Cornell-if it weren’t for ivy status, i’d say in. But very low reach
(8) Lehigh- pretty much in
(9) Washington U- pretty much in

Though my grades are crap compared to yours… but I still chanced you =D

Thanks HONORLIONS, you’re right, the 75% chance is too good to be true for HYP. Hopefully I write good essays though…

I’d say that MIT is probably a mid-reach for you, 'cause their admissions (especially regarding bright Asian girls) from my school are CA-RAY-ZAY. You I would’ve picked to get in absolutely before this year. The two I would’ve picked to get in absolutely (from my top-10 in the country public high school that is a science and math magnet) were both deferred then rejected, so… (Of the ones I would’ve guessed had 50-50 shots, one got in and one got waitlisted, so it’s not all doom and gloom.)

Do you deserve to get in to MIT? I would say so, absolutely. Do admissions correspond with who I think deserves to get in? Not always.

Yes, 75% is too high.

Actually, it does coarsely account for everything except recommendations and essays.

Not even close to “all applicants” have 2400 and 4.0. Certainly fewer than 100.

You are definitely going to make Cornell, UPenn.

(1) Yale Reach, but you definitely have a good shot
(2) Columbia Reach, but you have a great chance IMO
(3) Princeton Reach for everybody
(4) MIT Reach for everybody
(5) UPenn High match
(6) Dartmouth High match
(7) Cornell Match
(8) Lehigh Safety
(9) Washington U Safety

Honestly, I would be surprised if you didn’t get into at least of your top four choices. While you might have a 75% chance, you do have a solid chance.

Everything looks good. Yale and Princeton are reaches for everyone, though you have a good shot, and you definitely have solid shots everywhere else, especially Lehigh and Washington U.

quote Washington U Safety

[/quote]

WashU is highly selective and, certainly, nowhere near a safety. More like a high match. (By the way, WashU should never be considered a safety even by the most qualified applicants because it is known to exhibit Tufts Syndrome.)

Yes, I agree that acceptance to at least one of Yale, Columbia, Princeton, and MIT is likely.

I must disagree with penn being a match, as she is from Pennsylvania

Agreed with boy wonder, also I would say a better chance of getting in at Dartmouth than Penn regardless of where she lives.

Nevertheless, 75% chance? I mean… c’mon at Princeton? But essays and recommendations are pretty major aspects are they not? I mean, it’s what flavors the app up!

A bad exaggeration on my part I guess? I was really trying to say that well most (if not all) applicants who apply to Princeton and HYPSM have decent, if not, great test scores and GPAs. Though you make a good point.

Really? I had no idea it was that selective. I yield to silverturtles’s greater knowledge :)

by the way, in my previous post, I meant to say “while you might not have a 75% chance…”…stupid keyboard…

I disagree with that number, as I have indicated.

Yes, they can be very important. Most applicants, however, have good (but not outstanding) essays and recommendations, so the impact is minimal.

I guess that’s just even more of a reason to write outstanding essays? Isn’t it a very ‘personalized’ section of your app to like show that your personality type thing?

But you nevertheless again make a great point Silverturtle.

Yes. Great essays can provide a significant boost to one’s application. If an admissions officer is truly compelled to accept you by what you write, he or she will do so unless your grades and scores are not up to par.

^Haha. Well, since the college-prep prodigy himself commented, you’d be wise to take his advice, and I’m not saying that sarcastically.

I guess that 75% isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Still, you have a good shot at Yale and Princeton, and it’s likely that you’ll be admitted to at least one of them.
