Chance me : any Honors Program in the northeast US

Hello. I am wondering if there are any Honors Programs in the northeastern US with great benefits I could get into. It seems to me that their admissions vary greatly, some with multiple rounds of finalists, interviews, and so forth, whereas others, like my brother’s at a local state school, don’t require any application other than the admission application. I love the idea of an Honors Program, especially the benefits. Are there any you think I could get into with these stats?

3.8 UWGPA, 4.5 WGPA
7 or 8 AP courses (depending on senior year. All 5s so far)
2200 SAT, 33 ACT, NM commended
4 years track, 2 years XC, 4 years band
100+ hours volunteer work at local hospital lab, job at eatery
Want to major in BioMed or Chemistry…

Any colleges with beneficial but not super-selective Honors Programs? What about Syracuse’s, or Temple’s?

I was going to suggest Temple immediately. I’ve heard that Delaware’s Honors College is very good, also.

You only have to apply to Rutgers and UMD to be considered for their honors programs and I think you’d get in. Also I think temple has auto-admit (including a scholarship) for a certain ACT score

Strongly recommend Penn State, Rutgers, and Temple. I know Penn State’s Honor College is very competitive but on paper, you have the stats to get in.

There’s also University of Vermont, Ohio University, and Massachusetts Commonwealth Honors College (UMass Amherst).

Thanks for the suggestions. Do any of these, or any other honors programs that I could get into, offer full rides or other financial benefits for honors students?

@chris3499 - Why don’t you research them for yourself? Most of them are public colleges, which are likely to offer better packages to in-state applicants, but I know that Temple can be very generous to students from outside of PA, and it seems that I’ve heard of students who’ve gotten very nice scholarships to Delaware (none of them from in-state).

@woogzmama it seems that Honors colleges that guarantee money are rare, the only one I have found is CUNYs Macaulay program. Many websites don’t speak of scholarships at all. I will read more on UDel now, thanks for the info.

Penn State Honors only gives $3,000 I believe, really lousy financial aid in and out of state

Schreyer has a $4500 Academic Excellence Scholarship, tyvm.

The Honors Tutorial College at Ohio University is modeled on Oxford and Cambridge. Admission to HTC normally comes with a scholarship; some of which are full tuition and a couple are “full ride.”

I bet you could get into NEU’s honors college. You could also get some merit money, too.

Pitt’s Honors College is excellent and your stats would likely bring you major merit money.
NCSU and UNC-Wilmington both have good Honors Colleges with scholarships.
NEU’s Honors College is a good suggestion.
Penn State Schreyer is excellent, but indeed only comes with $4,500 in automatic scholarship, unless you snag a departmental scholarship.

You’d be a viable candidate for the UMD Honors college as well as merit money, and there’s no extra application for it.
