Chance Me / Application Discussion - Virginia Tech Class of 2024

Hi All, does anyone know how VT releases decisions? i.e. via portal, e-mail, snail mail? Thanks

@ash980123 EA and RD applications aren’t really reviewed at the same time. EA has priority.

VT’s page re: decision plans says outright that EA is where most of the applications come in, and from where most of the acceptance offers come and that RD will have less open spots available. Last year, less than 25% of the acceptance offers came from the RD pool.

Portal - usually close to 5pm. They will send an email that it is out but the email will come after its already up. I would probably start checking the portal each evening starting on March 3rd.

@2017and2020dad If you follow admissions on social media they usually post/tweet day of or day before re: what time decisions will be posted. That way everyone can try and login to their portal simultaneously and crash the system.

Thank you.

Which sat score do you guys think is viewed at better by admissions for COE applicants, a 1350 (800 MATH, 550 ENG) or a 1400 (700 MATH, 700 ENG)?

Also, is construction management considered COE?

yes - https://vt.edu/academics/majors/construction-engineering-and-management.html

My son applied for Business. His SAT score was low (1120) but his GPA is 4.47 (had 7 honors and 5 AP courses in high school. Solid community service, National Honor Society, Varsity Sports captain). I have another son who is a junior Aerospace Engineering at VT. What do you think my hopeful son’s chances are?

Trend seems to be GPA over SAT so certainly a fairly good shot.

When do we receive financial aid packages?

I wouldn’t count on much FA from Tech

Just a question on VT portal. I see a very basic screen with just personal information. Is this what everyone is seeing ? Usually the portal has much more info like what docs they received and when. And other links. Not sure if I am missing something. Please confirm

Chance my daughter please?
Applied to engineering
Sat 1280
4.2
In state
No legacy
Dual enrollment
will graduate with an associates
I wonder if that helps or hurts?
Top 5% of her class
NHS, FCCLA, Several volunteer positions at hospitals and working with special needs children, senior yearbook editor
No sports

Thanks! I have thoroughly enjoyed stalking all these boards, I can’t wait to see outcomes!

I think good chance - the SAT is a little low (hopefully math is higher than the reading section). Top 5% of her class says a lot so that should show good for rigor.

I think you are seeing everything that VT has to offer on their portal. It’s the worst admissions portal I’ve seen except for Clemson (who doesn’t have one at all). As long as it shows that my son got accepted, though, I’ll deal with it.

All of their sites are good post acceptance. Once accepted and you accept via the admissions portal you don’t have any reason to go back to it again.

Hey guys. If you clicked on this, thank you for taking the time to read it. I really appreciate it as I am stressed with college decisions. Im a senior in NJ and just applied to Virginia Tech. I did not get into Penn State main and was heartbroken as thats where I planned to go. However, I researched schools farther away and Virginia Tech became my new favorite. Maybe even more than Penn State. I wish I found it sooner but I didn’t and could not apply Early Action. I sent my regular decision and to be frank, I don’t think I have a shot but I thought Id put my stats out there and see if someone who has more information about the school can help me.

Major applied to: Human Exercise, Food, and Nutrition
GPA: 3.4 Weighted w 3 APs 4 years of math, 4 years of science
SAT: 1110 (Nota good test taker and took test several times)

So I know my stats are kinda bad and chances are slim. Anyone have any insight for me? Much appreciated!

SAT of 1360
Unweighted GPA of 3.6.
Weighted around 4.1

AP Physics A&B
AP Cal A&B
AP Macroeconomics

Remaining Honors Classes

Chances? Has anyone heard from Regular Application submittal?

I just saw that VT doesn’t accept a great percentage of RD applicants so I wish I had seen that before applying RD.

Is the Fashion Merchandising program there very competitive? Do I even have a chance getting in RD with: Sat 1270 and GPA 3.5?
