Finishing up undergrad this summer at UT Austin for a BA in English. My GPA isn’t good and I know it’s not, looking for honest opinions on admission.
Gpa: 2.8
EC: Editor of an Undergrad Journal, copywriter for UT yearbook
I’ve also had writings published in campus magazines
I know I can get good recommendations and write a good statement of purpose and writing sample. GPA should reach 3.0 after this semester.
What are my chances of getting into the ASU online English MA program??
Just upon looking through the FAQ’s on their program website, it appears 3.0 is their bare minimum GPA
''Applicants need a grade point average of “B” (3.0) or higher in the final two years of work leading to the bachelor’s degree. For help in calculating your GPA, please refer to the GPA calculator: https://students.asu.edu/gpa-calculator"
So, while your GPA doesn’t immediately rule you out, it does put you at the bottom of their candidate pool. However, they base your GPA around only your final two years and give you a means to calculate that, so maybe that boosts your GPA?
Since you have pretty solid EC’s, I would think if you provided spectacular writing samples along with your application, you should have an okay shot. It will probably work in your favor if the classes that brought your GPA down were not English classes as that is more easily explained.
Best of luck!
