Chance me at BC?

I am interested in CAS at BC.
GPA: 3.76UW and 4.27W when I apply. 3.81UW and 4.40 without one semester(that being my first semester of high schools, I have a decent explanation but with that being said my grades do trend upwards.)
ACT: 33 10/12 on writing
Good Leadership/ECs for my resume.
My teachers I have this year are two I have had all throughout high school, and they really like me so I think they will write a good letter.
Please let me know what you guys think! I am probably going to apply EA.

BTW: At my school BC acceptance rate was around 38% with every kid who had above a 3.7 and a 32 getting admitted.

UP

I would say you have a very good chance of getting in. It might help if you make an official visit & make sure the admissions office understands you really really want to go there.

As BC’s reputation has grown, it has become popular as a backup to Ivy League schools, as well as a backup for those who want both elite academics & big-time sports (& therefore apply to Duke, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, & a few others). Make sure they know you really want to go there, & you aren’t just using it as a backup.

@moooop I am applying EA to go there for the CAS I really hope I get in! It is my 2nd choice if I do not get into Emroy Oxford College or Cornell I am having such a hard time picking… I have a quick question though, does BC consider upward trends? My GPA is a whole lot better without my first semester of high school. (I moved from New York to here and didn’t know anyone so I had a hard time adjusting.)

Correction from above, BC does NOT take level of interest or official visit into account. As far a “upward trends” go the question is how low did one start and how high is the overall GPA.

@Shade45 Basically first semster of freshman year was 3 Bs one C and one A (4 B’s or below one semester) every since then I have gotten 6 Bs. (That includes 2nd semester freshman year, sophomore year, and junior year and summer of sophomore and junior year.)

Take “we don’t care about interest or visits” with a big grain of salt. It’s like “I don’t care what he/she looks like or does for a living…I care about the person.”

Can you share how you know BC does value and/or use demonstrated interest?

I was told at tour that BC added the supplemental question to weed out people who were not interested enough to take the time to write another essay. They do not take into account whether you visit because they are trying to attract students from a wider geographic area and travel to BC could be a hardship for some.

Visiting is nice but the thing I was stressing was letting them know you REALLY want to go there, and are not merely applying in case Plans A, B, C, D, & E fall through. There are schools at every level that struggle against the “backup” role (Cornell, Tufts, & Northwestern being some), & I think it’s just good strategy to assure them you are serious about them. You guys are certainly free to believe organizations when they claim things. I just think the whole admissions game is a lot less honest than you assume it is.
