High-income Half-Korean, half-white male, planning on studying political science/international relations. Attending an extremely competitive public high school in southern California.
GPA: 3.63 UW, 3.89 W. I have a major upward trend. My junior year I had a 3.8 UW / 4.3 W.
ACT: 35 Composite, 34 on Science and English, 35 on Reading and Math.
Subject Tests: 770 US History. Also a 700 on Math 2 and awaiting results on Literature. Unless required by the specific school, I’ll only send the US History, and Literature if I do well.
APs: Currently taking Calc AB, Lit, and European History. Last year I took Lang and APUSH, and got 5s on both. (For non-sciences, my school has a limited selection of APs)
Rec letters:
- French teacher, whom I only had for one year, but he liked me a lot (we talked a lot about politics and history together).
- Journalism advisor and english teacher. This one should be really excellent. We get along super well and I’ve had her for multiple classes across high school. People who’ve gotten letters from her in previous years tend to do really well with applications.
Essays: All of my supplements I think are pretty good and show off my natural voice. My common app is about how overcoming an eating disorder encouraged me to work harder in school and become more involved within my community. Everyone who’s read it loved it.
ECs: President of my school’s debate club, heavily involved in leadership for a state youth group, and editor on my school’s publication (we’ve been recognized nationally). These three are all very time intensive and the most important for me, but additionally, I’ve volunteered on a local political campaign and worked a summer job as a waiter.
