Writing is my passion and I’m hoping to major in something literature related. I’m also planning on applying to Columbia, Penn, Tufts, UVA, Georgetown, Berkeley, Johns Hopkins, and University of Chicago (where my mom is a professor)

If you know anything about those schools as well, please let me know.

Thanks so much! I’ll offer to chance back, but I’m definitely not an authority on admissions :p

Your mom might pull you into Chicago, but other than that possibility you have no safeties or matches on that list, at all. Don’t apply to all reaches, no matter how good your stats are.

Agreed with above.

I’d say Tufts, UVA, Georgetown, and Johns Hopkins are all matches

No. Absolutely not. Tufts and Johns Hopkins have acceptance rates below 30%, Georgetown’s is below 20%, and UVA for out-of-state is also in that range. They are all reaches.

stats
5’10 awkward male
32 act
800s on math 2c and chemistry

weighted gpa 4.4 unweighted 3.2
I am simultaneously in the top and bottom half of my class
I am a spectacular debater(it’s true) I compete at the top tier of the national circuit.
I teach science to middle school and high school students as a science Olympiad coach for a competitive middle school and as a teaching assistant for my first year chemistry teacher.

I am looking at UC Berkeley, Northwestern, Wash U in st. louis, Columbia, Brown, and Georgetown

take advantage of your honesty (“awkward male”) and strengths and put it powerfully in a well written essay. They don’t need well balanced people just a well balanced class!
