[ *] Summer Activities: Sophomore year I got a full-scholarship to an arts camp where I had to live there for 4 weeks with no phone. The only contact was through mail. I learned how to live on my own and I was exposed to other cultures. From where I’m from, there are only blacks and hispanics. The summer camp had asians and caucasians. It was sort of a culture shock for me but it was a motivator to go away for college because I wanted to be exposed to more diverse groups of people.

[ *] Essays: about how I value education because of my illegal status years before + how at a young age I had to translate and navigate through American culture for my parents + living in an inner-city makes me want to make a change.

[ *] Teacher Recommendation:

1 From my freshman honors literature teacher who is now my AP Lit teacher She has seen me grow as a student and we have the same ideals about being a leader and feminism.

2 The other will be my sophomore honors biology teacher. I actually knew him previous to him teaching me (close family friend). We share the same innovative ideas about making a change to our city and the people around us.

[ *] Weaknesses: Standardized Test Scores

@Ashlyvez You have a high a gpa, high class rank, Outstanding extracurriculars but low test scores. Fordham has a 48% acceptance rate so not that selective a university. Your test scores put you below the 25th percentile for Fordham, that hurts your chances. However, you are an under represented minority? If your thinking of applying as is then I wouldn’t submit that ACT score since it’s way too low and just submit the 1610 sat score. I just don’t think that 1600 score is a true reflection of your abilities because your clearly a bright student with a high gpa. Have you thought of taking the SAT again? I’m sure with enough prep you could at least reach the 1900 mark within a few months if not weeks. As is your chances of admission are around 20%-30% but if you could get that sat score to at least a 1900 then you have a 60%-70% chance of admission. Hope this helps and good luck.

Other than your SAT/ACT you have what Fordham is looking for. But they are a school that is more score driven than others, so your scores greatly diminish your chances. Don’t apply early. Retake the test and hopefully you will improve. ACT needs to be 27+. Is your hs considered a competitive school? That could help

My high school is the best one in the city but I live in an inner city so it is not much. The average SAT score in the school range from 1100-1300 max.

Yes I am going to study for the November one since one of my teachers bought the college board prep online class for me. I had previously studied for the first score by using Princeton Review, but I need a new method to reach the 1900s so I’m going to try the college board.

Your GPA, class rank, and extracurriculars are all are really good, and I think that makes your SATs look out of place. I’d say you have a very good chance; you’d probably could even aim higher if you want if you retook your SATs. Please chance back!!
