@toocoldtoohot You are definitely competitive for all the schools on your list but of course for the ivies and ivy-equivalents there will be thousands of other people with similar or better profiles so you can never know. I think your state might help a bit in terms of diversity, I don’t think there are too many students applying to elites from WV.

Do you have any safeties that are affordable?

This resume is insane. I would say that any school in the country is lucky to get you. Best of luck in the process my friend.

@suzy100 WVU and maybe university of Oklahoma. Other than that I am not applying to safeties in other states.

@Penn95 Thanks for the advice. I try not to get attached with these schools too much. @SeniorSnow your stats are really good as well and good luck to you as well.

You have a very competitive profile. I could see you getting into one or two Ivies

You have very good chances at all your schools, much better than me! Honestly it wouldn’t be too surprising if you got into a few. At the level of schools you listed, though, it’s often so random, so no one can accurately chance you. But you’re certainly on the right track! The only thing left for you to do is the essays, which if you manage to do well, will increase your chances by a lot. Good luck!

The UC’s don’t partner with Questbridge, so I would take them off of the list since the costs would exceed your annual income.
Also, although the schools aren’t supposed to consider AP scores, your scores in Physics would impact your acceptances at some schools. Caltech, Stanford, Harvard would be a stretch.

lol i highly doubt your one 3 on the ap physics exam will impact your acceptances. I mean, I got a 2 on chem, two 3s, and only one 5, but i’m still applying to schools similar to yours. Just don’t report it on your app, and you’ll be fine. Your AP scores and overall stats are awesome, and good enough to get into literally anywhere.

@“aunt bea” around 60% of students fail the exam, considering that, should I report it.
@summerhazed Thanks for your encouragement and advice.

If you’re QB, the UCs are probably financially out of reach, but I’d keep the app in just in case they offer you a merit scholarship (like Regents) (I’m also assuming you’ve already applied to them since the deadline passed, I believe).

Otherwise, you have as good as a chance as anyone else. At this point, the thing that will make or break your application are your essays, so make them count! Good luck

Just don’t report your 3 and write really compelling essays to help you stand out. You’re got great stats, give it your best shot and good luck!

@latinvibes I applied to see if I could get any merit aid and if not they’re a bit too expensive for me.

UC Regents, for non-residents, is very rare. Too much political pressure to keep funds for in-state residents.

Some of your reaches like to report that they have students from all 50 states. WV may help at those colleges–but of course they are still reaches for everyone. (Caltech and the UCs don’t care about geographic diversity.)

Unless it is through QB, most people say NYU’s need-based aid is not enough.

I know Vanderbilt gives good merit (so they probably give good need-based aid?) and likes high scores.

It seems like you are just applying to schools based on US News ranking. These schools have nothing in common with each other, except they all ranked high. What do you like? Big city, small city, suburban, rural? Small LAC, large research university? Liberal or conservative? etc.

Although WV may help, being Asian may hurt. Not sure which force will win the tug of war …

@bogeyorpar I tend to not have a preference in terms of location, except when the school is far from a big city or is not located in one. I am applying to LACs, because I have fee waivers for some of them and I can just forward my QB application. Who knows which will win the tug of war. Does it help I am first gen.

my brother goes to dartmouth and he loves it! he had a 1520 and is a white male (his essays were really good tho) so you definitely have a chance! if you want a secluded campus with a lot of partying and not a lot of leaving the campus unless you’re leaving new hampshire entirely then dartmouth might be the place for you! if you want a big city or big campus it probably isn’t

@emmajac I enjoy the outdoors a lot, so I really like Dartmouth.
