I’m an incoming high school junior in the HTX area and I’m starting to narrow my college list. My stats are: 3.9 unweighted gpa, 4.125 weighted, 1320 and 1470 PSAT. Haven’t taken the SAT/ACT yet but my guess is about a 1380+/ 28+. Caucasian Female. Rank is low,165/513 (32%). I attend one of the most competitive HS in the area. ECs include sport, Academic Decathlon, HOSA, and about 100+ volunteer hours. Prospective majors are psychology, biology, or poli-sci (basically law or med). Personally lean liberal.Chance me/give me advice for the following schools:
UT- Austin
Trinity University
SMU
Tulane
Wesleyan
Baylor
Johns Hopkins
Colorado College
I’ll take any recommendations for schools that give merit, as I don’t qualify for need based and my parents don’t plan on paying for much. In-State public or OOS private.
What is HOSA? And how do you have 2 scores for PSAT already… did you take it in both 9th and 10th?
Of the schools you listed, the ones I would have any clue of knowing your odds are Baylor and Trinity and those I think you have decent odds of acceptance given your higher PSAT, but would want to see a higher SAT/ACT than what you are guessing. SMU I don’t know anything about. The other privates are all more selective so more reachy and will depend more on how your SATs go and essays, etc. UT Austin again I’m not sure how their in-state policies go, especially if you are at a more competitive high school.
Aside from what you’ve listed, do you have any geographic preferences? Or anything like you love or hate Greek life or big cities or cold weather or anything like that?
Unfortunately, your stats don’t seem too great for a school like John Hopkins, especially for the major that you wish to pursue. The GPA is fine, but SAT/ACT and class rank are simply not up to the mark. UT Austin is a possibility. I’m not too sure about the other schools. Good luck!
As for geographic preferences, I dislike cold weather. The only reason I’d go far north would be for Wes. I’d prefer a school population sub-20,000. HOSA stands for Health Occupation Students of America, its a national organization in which students compete in area, state, and nation competitions in different areas of the medical field. I’ve competed at the area and state levels. I took the PSAT in 9th grade (1470) and 10th grade (1320). I’m selling myself short on the ACT and SAT predictions because I’m not exactly consistent with testing, hence the 150 point difference in my two PSAT scores. Rank I tricky at my school because we’ve had kids ranked 40-60% get into Ivies, top LACs, etc.
My SAT will probably be 1450+, ACT 31+.
I’d like to get away from home, but be near water. Any college on a lake/coast/gulf has more pull than one without.
