Chance me!

Hello:

I am a Jr. at a very competitve well known Houston High School and recently visited SMU and fell in love with the campus, buildings and many of the programs. I found the school to perfert for me as I feel the smaller environment and classes will allow me to grow personally. At this time SMU is my top choice for Fall 2015 but plan to visit TCU and Baylor. UT is my second choice but I believe it will be a tall order to get admitted.

Pleae take a look at my stats below and provide me with some feedback and let me know based on your experience if I have a chance to be admitted and recieve at least a $20K Scholarship. My parents and I have worked out deal that if I can make it in and get a 20K then they will help with the rest of the cost. I will apply no matter what but I am not willing to take on any debt before Law School and I dont want to send my parents to the poor house if i can prevent it.

I plan to go onto Law School hopefully at SMU as well and have not decided if I want to study English, History or maybe even Business (Saftey Net). I am a student of fair ability and make really good grades in a competitive school becuase I have great study habits, so I am told.

4.7 weighted GPA
All A's in AP classes except Math where I continue to earn high B's every semester
1280 CR+M SAT (First attempt and plan to take again after much tutoring but not expecing to see much of a bump- Darn Math)
Top 15% (Top 7% at my School have perfect GPA)
13 AP Classes (Scheduled for three in my Sr. year)

Tons of Leadership via School, Church and Oustide Activities
Loads of EC activities
over 300 hours Service

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration!

My son got in. He is at a very competitive private school in California. His weighted GPA around 3.8, although his school does not offer many AP courses as they don’t like “method” teaching, prefer specifically designed honors seminars (as do we–far more learning/thinking going on and while it impact his GPA against kids who take all those, for our money, we’d rather have him thinking deeply). HIs math is weak, too. 600, although 760 on critical reading and very high on writing. His school does not rank, but I am sure he’s in top 15% (probably around 12%). Eagle scout, black belt, lots of leadership and significant EC’s (continuity for years and leadership within them, not just lots of dc’s). he had about same service. he is an extraordinary writer, so that may have helped in the essay and the supplementals.
