Chance me at Rutgers NB (moved topic)

Hey guys really quick.

Right now: Senior and trying to apply to Rutgers for Civil Engineering. I am choosing Civil b/c the Architecture field from what I hear, it is really competitive, so I am trying to get the upper hand and go into Civil so I can understand concepts on why certain things won't work in architecture. Many people say I have the artistic talent to really shine in any art field, but I feel that's too exaggerated.

My unweighted GPA: 91
My weighted GPA: 94 (more towards 95)
My curve: (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior...) 91, 91 (It was like a .1 above the freshman grade), 98

Took APUSH (4 on the exam) and currently taking AP Calc. (Our school only has 4 AP classes; AP Bio, AP English, AP Calc, and APUSH) My AP Calc grade though is at a peaking 80 which I don't know if its good or bad, b/c from what I hear there are only 2 out of 20ish kids who have an A. (96 and 91 I think)
As for Honors, I've only taken Honors Earth Science, Bio, and Modern Global Issues. (10th grade Honors Social Studies) I am up to Art 3 and I have taken Chem 1 and currently taking Physics I and taking Physics II Honors next semester. (Block Scheduling)

Class Ranking: (30 (36 unweighted) /183)

SATs: (This is where it goes ouch...)
1st: June-4-2011 1440 (CR:500 Math:510 Writing:430 w/ an 8 on the essay)
2nd: Oct-1-2011 1430 (CR:480 Math:510 Writing:440 w/ an 8 on the essay)
3rd: Took them; will respond tomorrow with scores...

Extracurricular:

Not much... I have been a part in the Technology Student Association and was secretary my Sophomore year, then Vice President my Junior year, and then now I am the President. The highlight competition for me was the architectural competition which our team (team captain) won 12th place in the state, but it was out of like 18 or 22 places... I had hand drawn all the plans b/c none of us known how to use AutoCad at the time...

I am also a self taught guitar player and have played since 10th grade. I can also play bass too, but that's (almost) basically playing the same thing as guitar.

So do I stand a chance? I'm feeling really nervous about this... Also do I stand a chance for TCNJ too? If I don't can you guys recommend good NJ or close to NJ schools?

Bumpppppp!

I think you have decent grades and ECs. Your SAT, however, might hurt you in the long run.

Rutgers:
Test Scores – 25th / 75th Percentile
SAT Critical Reading: 520 / 630
SAT Math: 550 / 670

Write good essays, apply, and hope for the best!

I wrote an essay and I actually screened it through a couple of English teachers and said that my ideas were intriguing and weren’t like the other application essays they have seen, but I hear that Rutgers doesn’t like to weigh on the essay… ._.

Bummmmmmmmmmmmmp…

Alright guys I got a 1670 (CR:530, M:620, W:520 w/ a 10 on the essay) on the November SATs and that was the third time… Also should I use Score Choice and void out the other 2 tests or show one and show improvement? Should I take the ACTs? Ehhhh, help!

Bummmmp…

Hmmm… It seems kind of difficult, but I think you should apply. You never know, because you have taken a good rigor of classes with a nice/decent GPA. Your 1670 might hurt a bit, but as long as you make a good essay, you’re in.

Thanks, but I hear Rutgers doesn’t like to read the application essay a lot…

1670 should be good enough for Rutgers NB.

Id say you have a good shot. Rutgers does 2 things I hear… they weed out those who are COMPLETELY unqualified with a combination of SAT scores and GPA and then they look at EC’s.

Your GPA is pretty good so id say Rutgers will take that into better consideration.

I’m in state at Rutgers though so I may have a skewed idea but AFAIK it’s relatively easy to get in, although they have lowered class size this year.

I’d say, you have better grades than some of my classmates who got in so you probs have a good shot.

@Excavalier Thanks.

@hiremathk Thanks. But I saw on the School of Engineering, the average was 1820 which brought my confidence down… What is AFAIK anyways though?
