Thanks!

anyoneee? 10char

Stanford is a reach for anyone, no matter your stats. That said, you stand as good of a chance as anyone else. Good luck.

Your EC’s demonstrate clear interests in debate, music, and community service, and the fact that you’re from an under-represented state (Oklahoma) will also help your chances. Stanford tends to be a little quirky in whom they select, meaning that your “soft factors” will play a significant role in your admissions decision, so your best bet would be to write a very strong essay (which you’re clearly capable of). Best of luck! :)

pretty good shot imo. contrary to the previous posters however, i think ecs are more like a laundry list that youve done for college. i recommend that you list the few that are most important to you and highlight them to make it look like you’re more passionate for these schools

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1005943-chance-senior-will-chance-back.html

^ Many of the OP’s awards fall into only a few distinct groups, so I assume you made that comment after merely giving his post a cursory glance.

just a couple of minor points –

1) listing things like “AP Scholar” that are clearly duplicative of the underlying scores you list for AP classes comes off as padding, and diverts attention from the core accomplishments. A little like listing “National Honor Society member”, don’t you think?

2) showing that a book is to be published by the Chinese Youth Association, only to find out ten lines down that this Association is founded by you, really means self publishing, doesn’t it? THAT comes across as a silly and unnecessary padding of accomplishments.

3) Figure out a way to remove about half or more of the wording in your Accomplishments. LESS IS MORE. by listing so much detail, you risk putting readers to sleep. For example, listing “member of” for an activity in which you bore no leadership or responsibility is just distracting filler. What do you mean to accomplish by listing the fact that you’ve taken Violin lessons from some Professor? If Obama were to say hello to you in a receiving line at a speech in Norman, would you list that as an accomplishment? LOL

All that to say, edit these things way down both here, and on your future college apps. Keep it short and punchy. don’t take yourself too seriously, and try to convey a sense of humor in your applications… humor trumps a ponderous gravity every day of the week.

As to Stanford, your test/GPA stats are slightly above the midpoint of the accepted student at Stanford. They are also typical of about 80% of the rejected applicants.

I second the comment about the importance of the essay. This is for practical pursposes the primary way (along with letters of rec) for adcoms to decide which are the 6% (about 1-2% of applicants are “hooked” or non-academically exceptional – e.g. Olympic marksman etc.) of highly statted students that are accepted from about 94% (of highly statted) that are not. See HUMOR comment above. Just make sure you get your attempts at humor edited by others… humor is fantastic when it works, and disasterous when it doesn’t.

i saw it. there are things like breakdancing/ mu alpha theta / chinese club etc that dont show the commitment OP does to the other activities. im doing a similar thing, taking my non-leadership, non major ecs out

thanks a lot guys!! yeah i need to get some issues worked out with this resume

What do you mean to accomplish by listing the fact that you’ve taken Violin lessons from some guy? LOL ya lololololololol u specifically made this resume for my recommending teachers so they know more about people like that. i guess i made myself look dum py posting that on cc :P

anyone chance for HYP, Northwestern, UChicago, UPenn, Washu, Cornell, or Rice?

You’ll get in anywhere sam! LOVE YOU BABE
