SAT/ACT could be higher for more selective UCs, but your GPA, other scores, and essays could definitely boost you even for Cal. As a fellow UC applicant, can I ask which topic you used for your second essay? Thanks!
For my second essay I talked about how my experiences on my robotics team has changed my view about teamwork and collaboration. Also, I highlighted how I viewed computers as a toy until I actually started using computers to program and design robots, which made me realize that computers actually had real world value and convinced me to continue on the comp sci path.
UCR/UCM: Safety
UCSC: Match
UCI: HIgh Match
UCSD/UCSB: Low Reach
UCSD: Reach
UCB/UCLA: High Reach
GPA is great but test scores are on the low side especially for CS. You want to be above the average for a solid chance at theses schools. Your essays could definitely help.
The UCs are public universities and **do not ** use affirmative action for admission because it is against the law in California. So being Hispanic isn’t a “hook” for admission at these schools.
Your test scores may put you at the mid-tier universities but because you want CS, your chances are better at Riverside and Merced.
