Because I have a difficult time focusing, this is the best I could do on these tests. I explained in my apps that I am unable to focus for long periods of time.

I plan on majoring in Computer Science but because of the difficulty of getting into Engineering these days I only applied to CompSci at the CSU's and to UCR, UCM and UCSC.

Essays: 11/10
I truly believe that my essay can get me into one of my reach schools. I've had professional proof readers and teachers read it and they all cried. I went through a lot of hardships throughout my time in HS and the fact that I was able to turn it around my Junior year is really amazing in the eyes of my teachers, counselors and family.

Please read the whole post and not just the numbers and thank you. I'll chance back!

CSU’s do not use essays in determining acceptance so they will not help you. Your SAT/ACT and overall GPA are low for all the CSU’s you applied. They use an Eligibility index to determine acceptance. Using your SAT score with GPA of 3.6, your index is 3980. I believe for Computer Science majors it needs to be at least 4100 or above at SDSU,CSULB and CPP. SLO uses additional critieria including your Freshman year grades which you did not list. I would say only CSULB could be a match. The rest of the CSU’s would be a Low Reach to Reach. 1st generation and the dramatic improvement in grades may help.

For the UC’s, I believe you are a Match for UCM and UCR. Low Reach for UCSC and reaches for the rest. Again your 1st generation, grade improvement and essays may help with UCI/UCD and UCSB.

@Gumbymom thanks for the feedback I really needed to hear from someone other than myself that I still have a chance at the mid tier UC’s

California public schools don’t use affirmative action, so your URM status won’t hold much weight.

@Menacing
I know but my first generation and low income status will.

At UCs they take the highest SAT/ACT score from a single sitting, and I noticed an upward trend in your grades. Plus you have a fairly rigorous course load, which UCs look at the most. I knew someone who took all APs and had a really low GPA but still managed to get into Davis b/c of the classes she took. AND since you wrote a strong personal statement, that should definitely help. I bet you can get into a few UCs.:)
