Chance me?

I'm not sure if maybe you haven't gotten your AP scores yet for junior year, but if you're only going to have one AP score at the time of your applications, I'd recommend taking some SAT IIs to show off your knowledge of some of your other subjects, like literature, math, physics, French, even taking a US History one couldn't hurt. I think colleges see College Board tests as an objective way of measuring your knowledge of a subject, since teachers and grades can be so different. You've done very well on the AP test you have, but it can only help to show some more.

You have a lot of ECs, but the ones that stand out I think are the ones about starting your own businesses and your leadership positions in sports. As long as you display that a lot of time and effort went into these I'm sure these are fine. Consider essays about them.

I think Yale, MIT, and Brown are high matches to reaches, but aren't they always? It's impossible to definitively chance people for those schools. You're obviously an above average student with an above average resume, but the things that really pop out are your sports leadership and entrepreneurship. Your politics summer program sounds interesting, though, try to emphasize that and the role you played. You have a pretty challenging senior courseload and I'm assuming the rest of your high school career matches that, but you don't seem to have that many AP tests and such to prove it, so make sure you really keep those grades up senior year to compensate. Senioritis is a killer, be warned.

Side note - I'm curious, though, your classes/ECs/jobs don't seem to detail your standard MIT fare. What do you want to do at MIT? When I applied to MIT I talked about astrochem focus (that's what my internships dealt with) but also that I would be interested in making use of their business and management programs. Tip for MIT or other tech schools - if you're thinking of doing something that's not the norm there - write an essay about it! That's my idea. Sorry that's off topic and I'm just curious. =]

I don't know much about Northeastern or BC, but BU and WashU St. Louis should be fine for you! Just write some great essays. Advice for Yale SCEA -have a good "Why Yale" answer to stand out. I'm pretty sure they give it more attention now because of the upsurge in EA applications.

Well, you got it...i'm really interested in the business program at MIT, but i'm really interested in other fields such as chemistry, but not so much that i would like to major in it. thanks for the reply

Dunno about how many AP classes were offered at your school through sophomore year, but 5 AP classes by the end of senior year seems like a tad below the average # of APs taken by applicants to Yale SCEA.

I would say you definitely have a shot at Yale SCEA and others, but don't count on getting that acceptance letter come December or April

What are your SAT II's? Only one AP so far?

Give me this info and I'll make a better post.

yeah for my year there was only really one AP course for that year, I had honors for the rest of my courses...i'm taking sat IIS in october

I'd say you're as close to a cinch as is possible at BU and Northeastern and a strong match at BC. (There are a lot of other schools, similar to BC, that are in the selectivilty range between Yale/Brown/MIT/WashU and then BU/Northeastern. I'm sure you'll get many suggestions from other posters)

You are a realistic although far from certain candidate for each of the other schools, particularly if your out of class activities are as interesting as they appear to be.

I'd suggest categorizing your activities. Reaching moderatlely high leadership positions at Boys' State is fine, but if you tie that in with the Parliamentary award and include perhaps any political volunteering or issue work or research you may have done could be more impressive taken together. Likewise with your business experience, which I would be careful to elaborate. The fact that you created both a volunteer tutoring service and a tutoring business appears to illustrate both your leadership and entreprenurial skills. Your leadership ability is further evidenced by yours sports participation, etc., etc.

In sum, you have very good stats and a potentially great story to tell. If you tell that great story, I would not be surprised if you get accepted at one of or more of those 4 reaches. And if you are a skilled athlete that one of those schools could use, your chances are greatly enhanced...
