Chance me au rd

Hi,

I need to be chanced because I’m going crazy waiting for my decision.

I am a white female senior from a very small public school in Vermont (250 kids). I applied journalism first choice and film and media studies second.

My school/state has a completely weird grading system but my best bet at one my GPA would be on a normal scale is 3.7/4 unweighted (my school doesn’t weight) My GPA has also risen over the years for example freshmen year I was really depressed and lost (I mentioned this in the additional information section of the common app) so my gpa was like 3.1 but my junior year GPA was equivalent to a 4.0 and has only risen senior year.

Since my school is small we only have a handful of AP classes and for upperclassmen only so I have taken AP Envi (4) Junior year and am currently taking AP Lit and AP Stats and am doing well in both.

1260 SAT 680 English 580 Math (idk if this matters but it was one of the highest in my grade)

We don’t do class rank but was given latin honors for being in the top 20% of my class last year

Senior year classes (the class options are highly limited for seniors)

  • AP Stats (full year)
  • AP Lit (full year)
  • band (full year)
  • gym (first semester) I got an A
  • I am taing for an international relations humanities class (second semester)
  • Hollywood History (first semester) I got the highest possible grade
  • Economics (second semester)

I am not taking science this year because there was none left that’d fit into my schedule and I have more than enough science credits

ECs

  • Dance 6+ hours a week since 4th grade
  • concert and marching band since 4th grade (currently first flute) I have been to band festivals and am choreographing our marching band routine this year
  • Student Council 10, 11, 12
  • Environmental Club (I run the social media) I also was the main planner in the fridays for future strike we did
  • co-founded a club in the wake of parkland with some of my friends to raise awareness for gun violence which included a walkout on the national school walkout day at which I gave a speech
-did some weekend french exchanges with kids from Quebec
  • had a part-time job at the time of application but the restaurant god flooded with sewage (long story)

This also technically isn’t an ec but I have always been good at making executive and organized decisions and plans at improving things around my school by talking to guidance counselors, teachers and my principal so I hope that is reflected in my letters of rec

letters of rec

  • guidance counselor, she really likes me and has seen my leadership and growth over the years part of her first class to she had 9-12
  • English teacher had her originally for 9th grade English and creative writing bonded with her instantly and have since been able to go for her with everything I had her an advisor for a poetry independent study I did last year and currently TA for her class she has seen my evolvement, knows my schedule and likes my writing skill
  • Cultural Geography teacher/Advisor I have been in her advisory since freshman year knows me well and really likes me (like once called me extraordinary) took a class with her last year got a perfect school and half my assignments used as examples she also teaches half of the class I TA for

previous interest

haven’t been able to make it do DC recently but I did sign up for Americans email list last year, have talked to their reps at college fairs and emailed their admissions with questions as well as showed my research in the why au essay

common app essay

should be noted not to hype myself up but my essay is something I am proud of I wrote it about my childhood speech impediment and how discovering writing helped me get through that and empowered me and how that combination has caused me to want to go into journalism to give voices to others I had multiple teachers read it and help edit they all loved it and I got texts from the head of admissions at a school I got into complimenting it

anyway sorry this is so long please tell me my chances

I would like to give you feedback. Can you reread your posting for grammar and punctuation errors. Is it possible for you to correct those and then repost.

I’d say you have a good chance, if not for your SAT, it’s kinda low. It’s in the bottom 50% of American’s range. That being said, you’re also applying for one of the most competitive major as well, and you come from a somewhat popular state for American. Do you have any other APs?
