You many want to be a bit more careful. UNC Chapel Hill and NYU probably are at the least slight reaches for you.

Your class rank isn't too far above the 50th percentile and your ACT scores are spectacular. On top of that, you're an Indian male, which will probably make things even more difficult for you. And what do you mean no APs taken yet? You have AP Government already done don't you?

Your EC's aren't bad, but you aren't in NHS and you haven't listed whether or not you are dedicated to a sport or instrument, which is something colleges like a lot.

What I would recommend is to pull your ACT to over 30, and score at least 700 (750+ would be great) on some SAT IIs. Perhaps Math Ic and Physics? Decide that for yourself.

Duke, Cornell, and UChicago are all pretty big reaches for you. UNC Chapel Hill and NYU aren't matches. The rest of your predictions look accurate, although I don't know much about Boston University or U Illinois at Chicago. Good luck.

Your EC's don't reflect an interest in medicine, they seem extremely tailored to business (heck, I was wondering why you were applying to med schools). Your GPA is below average for UNC CH, NYU, and all your reach schools. I wouldn't consider U Illinois as much of a match either. The rest seem OK.

reject at Uchic, duke, and cornell

unlikely:: NYU, UNCH

all the others are possible.

The failed course might be a problem for your matches. I'd say UIUC is also a high-match

these were the results princeton review gave me. Also what do you guys think about the straight programs?

One other thing. If i apply to UIUC undecided does that raise my chances of getting in? i can just change majors once i get in?

In case your wondering: I decided to go into medicine this summer, i was going to go into computer science when i realized that i was indian and that my indian ass belongs in a surgery room.

If your grades aren't strong enough to get into standard undergraduate programs at schools, it's difficult to say that you'll have any better a chance at straight programs. I think you'd fare so much better applying for business since you have the EC's to back it up. Leave med school for 4 years later when you've made up your mind about what you want to do for the rest of your life.

umm i no what i want to do. It is medicine. I don't like business its lame.

Your dedication is admirable (but it's not just because you're Indian and think that that means that you must become a doctor I hope), but with your lack of ECs tailored towards medicine, you may find in a few years that it's just not something that you are good at or even like.

Your resume certainly does not indicate a passion for medicine. Whether you think you like business or not, applying to business schools will do much better for you than applying for schools with strong undergrad med programs.

ok. well this year i will be working as a nurse's aid in school. And im also getting an internship at my dad's hospital. And yes, i know my EC's and classes are tailored for business and technology. But i've seen it all and im positive that i do not want to go further in those fields. I've moved to Medicine over the summer. I don't want a really competitive field to enter into like business or computers. There will always be a growing need for doctors and pysicians. This is where i feel safe. I've seen many of my family members go out of their way and go into IT, business, law, and find themselves constantly looking for new work.

When you say that business is competitive, you must also realize that med school is much more competitive. More than 50% of freshman "pre-meds" drop out before senior year. ~55% of all that do stick around are rejected from every single med school that they apply to (varies from school to school but that's the national average). Granted if you do carry through its a stable profession, but its by no means guaranteed. Schools in your reach category are notorious (in some ways relating to suicide) for not even allowing students to apply for med schools unless they reach a certain caliber of classwork. Simply put, many many circumstances could easily change your mind and make med school difficult.

I'm not bashing your love for medicine at all, but my post simply mentioned that applying to a business major for some of the schools listed (although not Cornell or Duke) would make your application much stronger than it would be right now since your EC's could possibly compensate for your GPA and an impacted major (where it IS impacted and not just a pre-major) like business would likely place an emphasis on EC's more than just numbers (as in the case for CAS) I don't believe any of the schools you listed would force you to stay in business your whole time there, so you shouldn't have that much trouble switching (heck, most people would die to get into the business school) into a biology/biochem major afterwards.

improve standarized test scores, work to improve grades (never too late to start a biiggg upward trend)

good luck.

ok, so if i stay in pre-med all 4 years. Then i start applying for med school. I would apply to like dozens of med schools including the schools in the caribean. There has to be chance that i get into ONE school right?

I don't feel like you have a good understanding of what lies ahead of you, no matter if you do business, medicine, or something else.

You should really sit down and have a long discussion with your parents, your teachers, and your guidance counselor about your future. How is it that you have a parent in medicine and don't know about how ruthlessly competitive the field is?

I still get the vibe that you want to do medicine because you feel it's something you're obligated into because of your ethnicity.

lol no i don't feel obligated to do so. My father is actually a nuclear medicine tech. He worked in his hospital for more than 20 years and makes more than the doctors do there. He's really close friends with them as well. I do know that it is very difficult, andi ask this question again and again. Its just that i always get different answers like:

"no its basicly impossible to get into med school"
"u stand and a good chance in a 6 year direct program"
"just do pre-med, then apply in caribean"
"you'll do fine getting your pre-med reqs done, you'll have lots of party time!"
"dude, ur indian, if u dont get accepted to med school just be a cab driver"

yeh, i have talked to many people, many doctors, they always give me the impression that it's easy to get into med school, and online ppl give me the impression that its impossible.
