Chance Me - Cautiously Hopeful Transfer Student

I am currently in my Freshman year in college and have applied to Georgetown University, William and Mary, UVA, University of Maryland and LeHigh for my Sophomore Fall. I would be considered out of state for the public universities I applied to.

I attended a highly ranked and notoriously rigorous high school where GPAs were not weighted, and the average was about a 3.4
My HS GPA: 2.87, however for junior and senior year my GPA was a 3.1 (hopefully the upward trend will reflect positively on my high school grades)
Throughout high school played 4 years of varsity soccer and track, captain of the soccer team and received the coaches award, held Student Government position for four years and participated in a volunteer program in a foreign country, volunteered at a home for the elderly, as well as a peer mentorship program at my high school.

SAT Score: 1870, not very strong, I have strong AP scores but that definitely won’t make up for this

Two Internships as a Summer Analyst at Hedge Funds in Washington, DC

I currently attended a highly ranked NESCAC school (liberal arts school in the northeast).
My College GPA: 3.451 (However I received all As and one B in a subject I do not intend to major in)
I am on the Honor Council at my college, I am on the Student Advisory Board for a Freshman Program, I participate in two community service organizations, I play club soccer and I am on the varsity rowing team.

I have good recommendations and a personal letter from the Dean, who I got to know well since I served on the Honor Council.

In addition I was involved in a severe accident but have chosen to return to school in the spring so I could finish the academic year in order to give myself a better chance of transferring. The accident has not impacted my grades but is mentioned on my application.

I want to transfer because the major I want to pursue is not available at my college and the opportunities are limited, I desire to be in a more diverse community with a vibrant city/surrounding area.

Any input is appreciated.

Not sure about other colleges but chances of Georgetown seem fairly slim. Georgetown accepts around 10% of transfer applicants with strong academic records (3.7+). Although it definitely wouldn’t hurt to try it will be hard with your college GPA.

W&M, Lehigh, and UMD all seem viable with your scores and ECs. That personal letter from the deam should really make you stand out from the general pool though!

I’d be more cautious about UVA and Gtown. As mentioned above, Gtown is very competetive from transfers, and UVA is HARSH on OOS applicants.

Good luck!
