Mathman97 UT calculates an Academic Index (AI) and a Personal Achievement Index (PAI). The AI is a formula based on class rank, math score and writing score that predicts a projected GPA. The PAI goes from 1 to 6. 1 or 2 points for each of the two essays, 1 point for ECs and 1 point other circumstances. Search AI under the UT topics and I think you will be able to find the formula for SAT scores. If you don’t find it that way Google UT academic index.
Anyway your math and writing SAT scores are very good. Based on your weighted GPA I assume your actual class rank is higher than 8 %. So your AI should be competitive from I have been able to read from others comments. Looks like your ECs are good. My guess is that you have a very good chance. What was your second major?
@K20903 lol no I have a very competitive school, I am ranked 7.1% to be exact, I hope you’re right though!!
Here is the AI formula for SAT. -2.254+(SAT W x .002) + ((1-HSR)x.023) + (SATM x .003). If you take more than the required classes in two of math, science or foreign language you get a 0.1 bonus. Running through the formula with your SAT scores above you would get either 3.583 or 3.563. If you get the bonus then add the 0.1.

Check for your high school here. UT does not generally care if your high school is “competitive.” Look to see how many people enrolled from your school in each year. That will give you an idea off how well your school does in admissions. It still won’t tell you who gets in to competitive majors.
Your scores are impressive and your rank gets you in the door. You are doing better than most. Good luck!
@gettingschooled over 30 people lol, thanks!
@k20903 I would get the bonus, what does the number mean tho, what is a good number? Also I forgot to answer your previous question, my second major is mechanical engineering
The AI scale is the X axis and ranges from 4.1 to 2.8. The PAI is the Y axis and goes from 1 to 6. So top left on the X/Y matrix is where you want to be. So as I understand it UT will plot all the applicants for Chem E on the matrix and then fill the available spots. Just based on comments I have seen on CC I think 75% of spots go to auto admits, 15% to in state review admits and then 10% OOS. Looking at Chem E there are about 750 undergrads, so dividing by four you would think that there will be at least 180 to 200 spots offered. 135 to 150 for auto admits. If you are not chosen for your first major then they put you in with group for your second major. I did not look at Mechanical but I think the number of admits is higher for that.
As to what is a good number I do not know. The fact that they calculate the AI out to the third decimal point probably givens an indication of how competitive it is. I would assume that for two applicants that have the same AI the one with the higher PAI would be chosen. The question is how do they evaluate someone with a higher AI but lower PAI than someone else. That is why the essays are so important. You can get four of the six PAI points for the essays. ECs add a point and then the last point is special circumstances.
@K20903 Welp doesnt look like im getting in then, im not auto admit at 7.1% class rank
Edit: just saw auto admit for me is top 8% woooo!
@Mathman97 Keep in touch and let me know how things go. Hopefully we are both class of 2020.
@K20903 sounds good! Are you chemE too?
@Mathman97 Trying for PetE. Chem E is my second choice.
