I’m also a Texas resident, and I’ve already been automatically accepted into the main school.
I’d say academic wise you are alright. What about essays/recs? What exactly are your EC’s?
I only had 1 recommendation letter (had to use the other one for the Presidential’s Scholar). My English teacher told me my topic B was great, amd I personally believe my topic C is good as well. For ECs, I have a lot of hours (~800) and I’m in several clubs (NHS, Amnesty International, Science UIL, Chess Club) but I have had absolutely no leadership positions.
@vex888 UT calculates an Academic Index (AI) and a Personal Achievement Index (PAI) to do their admission evaluation. Here is the link to the UT document that has the AI and PAI. It is on about page 34. https://www.utsystem.edu/sites/utsfiles/documents/institutions/best-practice-admissions-processes/ut-system-admissions-best-practices-2014-07.pdf
What you will see is that UT only uses your ACT Math and English/Writing score along with your class rank in the AI formula. The AI score is straight forward to calculate. The PAI is subjective but since you thought your essays were really good you probably will get a good score on that since essays are four of the six points.
@gettingschooled had a recent post that linked to the Fisher Supreme Court case and showed an example of how UT uses the AI PAI grid. So what it really boils down to is how your AI/PAI score compares to others applying to the same engineering discipline in Cockrell.
On the recommendation letters I submitted one of the letters twice. Once for the admission application and again for the Presidential Scholarship. I had the understanding that the admission application and Presidential Scholarship application were two different things. I may have been wrong on that. If you contact a UT admissions counselor they could tell you if you can use one twice and if there is still time to submit it.
