For Princeton EA: You seem committed to dancing and the arts. However, your academic credentials seem lacking: average or below-average SATs, GPA and AP scores. Seeing as you even submitted a dance supplement and went to numerous summer programs for dance, I would think you would try for an arts school like Julliard. I think you do have great chances for NYU!

Thanks so much! I’m not applying to arts schools because my goal is to be a lawyer im only planning to minor in dance. Could someone rank schools in terms of match, reach, and safety.

Most of these are reach, given your GPA/test scores. Because you are a legacy, you have a lot better chances at NYU. No guaranteed admission at any of these, but don’t give up hope!!

Thanks so much! Anyone else?

to be frank stanford and the ivies except cornell are very high reaches. uchigaco and cornell are normal reaches too. see if you can get your test scores up

I’ll be completely objective based on available statistics:
Princeton (EA): Impossible
Stanford: Impossible
Williams: Impossible
Columbia: Impossible
NYU (Legacy): Reach
Wesleyan: Reach
Harvard: Impossible
Cornell: Impossible
UChicago: Impossible
Amherst: High Reach
Haverford: High Reach

No matter how good your extracurricular activities are, admission officers mainly use test scores, GPA, curriculums, and achievements during the initial review of the application.

I wouldn’t say anything is impossible. One of my friends got into Stanford last year with test scores lower than yours and much less impressive ECs. Your test scores may not be amazing, but they’re definitely not bad. Your ECs are great. They really show commitment to dance and law. And going out of your way to take AP Tests shows initiative. No college will refuse to look at you just because you had a couple Bs.
Don’t lose hope in the admissions process! I would say to spend a lot of time on your essays. I have another friend who got into brown. His stats were good, but i think it was his essay that got him in. He took a big risk with it, but it paid off.
If they reject you, it just wasn’t meant to be. But if your essays really show off your personality/identity, I’m sure you’ll get into one of your top schools.

Anyone listing 7 schools as impossible and 4 more as reaches/high reaches for a candidate who’s not far below average doesn’t know what he/she is talking about.

Cut down on the reaches, but apply to 1-2 of your top choices if you want.

Thanks so much for all the input guys! I really appreciate it. Anyone else?

I would say that NYU and Haverford are more likely to accept than are other schools, but if you raise your SAT to 2250+, the other schools will be within range also!!

30%.

Youre a qualified candidate but lack of hooks and low SAT scores are gonna be impediments to admission. Definitely apply, and you absolutely have a chance just like anyone else. Best of luck, I hope you get in to your dream schools

Thanks so much guys! I don’t test very well. Realistically speaking I only have hopes for NYU just because of my legacy status.

Wait can someone explain to me why am unweighted GPA of 3.88 is bad? People keep posting here that OP has a low GPA but it would seem to me that a 3.88 is great, since it’s a mix of As and A-s… I at least think it’s good

honeslty, @Mminjjae those scores will not throw her out of the boat. My aunt worked as an admission officer for Cornell in the past and she said that above 3.5 UW and 1900 were generally still considered.

Additionally, she is only 40 points under the average Cornell (obviously the holistic one) and is right around the average UW GPA for the school.

@kev7710, if it was only a mix of As and A-s (as you assumed) then it was fine! But often it is an indication of few Bs in the mix!
And nobody says that 3.88 is not great…but is not quite enough for elite schools in OP list!

I got into Amherst with an ED program and I have a 3.84 and an ACT score of 29 which are lower stats than yours so I don’t think the scores will kill you. It’s possible

Thanks for chancing me! I actually have a little knowledge about these, I hope it helps.

Princeton (EA) - You’ve already heard back
Stanford - High reach
Williams - High reach
Columbia - High reach
NYU (Legacy) - Match. With legacy, would be surprised if you didn’t get it.
Wesleyan - Low reach. If you had higher test scores I would say high match, but you’re also an unhooked white girl (I feel the pain) so it’s difficult.
Harvard - High reach
Cornell - Reach
UChicago - High reach
Amherst - High reach
Haverford - High match.
