chance me! (concurrent enrollement HS/CC student)

me: white female from CA
intended major: public policy/polsci w/ econ component

(disclaimer: I understand that I am not a very strong candidate, but with my unconventional situation and the uncertainty w/ covid, I am applying this year to a handful of schools just to try my chances and will transfer into my local state university system if it does not pan out)

grades:

  • I had some health troubles which made my sophomore & junior years very difficult to complete (will elaborate in my essays). however, I’ve also transitioned into a concurrent enrollment program at my local community college which has been WAY better academically for me:
  • competitive public high school: 2.9 unweighted
  • local community college: 3.5 + improving!
  • act: 31 (retaking in fall, aiming for 33)

ECs:

  • religious youth group for 4+ years, held many high-level state/local leadership positions + volunteer opportunities
  • school drama program for 2 years, held leadership positions
  • part-time job for 2 years 15-20 hours a week

LORs/Essays:

  • will get good letters of rec from 11th grade lit teacher, school asst. principal, and youth group advisor (all are familiar with my health issues and can reference them in the letters)
  • I have some ideas for essays specifically correlating to the schools I’m interested in and am a strong writer, first drafts are looking good

schools:

  • URichmond
  • William & Mary
  • Syracuse
  • George Washington
  • American
  • UPittsburgh
  • RIT
  • Gettysburg
  • CSUs as a transfer student (safety)

also am exploring the possibility of applying as a transfer for the fall of 2021 - I will have completed 2 years/7 quarters by that point and will have a much stronger GPA than my HS.

thank you!

How many credits have will you complete at the community college (you need 90 quarter credits or 60 semester credits to transfer to a UC or CSU), and are the courses aligned with transfer requirements for UCs and CSUs and the specific major at specific campuses that you are targeting?

Have you run the net price calculator on each college to check affordability?
