income bracket: >500,000; however significant recent financial strain from divorce and parental situation
Sorry for being so candid. It is low. The income bracket doesn’t help at all. Your unweighted is pretty low for ivy schools and other tops. Your math 1 is bad since it is math 1 and is not high. I say below standard so 10% You have an interesting story but isn’t unique. Rich parents divorce isn’t bad.
thanks for your honesty, I understand it is probably a huge reach for me. I wholeheartedly assure you it was extremely bad but thanks for the input there.
Please still apply to Cornell. Yes, you have a chance. There are people with your stats who have been accepted before. Your SATIIs might not be the highest but they are above 700 and are fine. I think your essays will be also be unique. Will you have your guidance counselor explain your low GPA? I think with explanation, Cornell will understand.
wow thank you, other than my friends who already go to the school, you are the only positive response I have gotten so far lol. My guidance counselor included it in her rec, as did my chemistry teacher in hers. ED results come out in 8 days now so I guess I just have to hope for the best, Cornell has been my dream school for a very long time, and due to my situation, I almost didn’t apply.
I am so sorry for what happened to you! High income is irrelevant in acceptance. Cornell is a need blnd school and will not see your fam income until accepted. I feel that you overcame a lot! Your personal essay and recommendations will show it too. I have a feeling that your lower GPA had something to do with domestic situation. If I can see ths wo reading your essay, I am prettu sure ADcom will see it too. I really hope you get in. You deseve it!!!
Which college did you apply to btw? I applied ED to HE and anxiously waiting too:)
Although I think your story sounds compelling, I think what it will come down to in the end is if the admissions committee determines you can do the work or not as reflected by your grades recs and essays. What were your grades from freshman to senior year?
Keep your chin up and apply to Cornell with confidence. You have a good chance! I see less stats than yours get admitted and higher stats than yours get rejected. It’s not all numbers game. Number is about 50-60% of the hole person score. The rest is in your essays, EC, awards, recommendations, and the type of quality candidate you are to Cornell entering class. Be brave, confident, and you will continue to be the bridge between your mom and dad. They will always be your mom and dad. Even if they move on with their own lives. Your courage is already demonstrated by your maturity on this post. Outstanding Jenna!
