Weighted GPA: 4.0

SAT 2250, Subject test math II 800, Physics 800

Intern at a National Lab writing machine learning program, one paper with scientist

Local tutoring club founder and president, tutoring 2 elementary school students for years.

My grades were not so good in 9th grade because of a health problem I had at that time. I got a 6 B and 6 A that year. But since then, my grades improved and I got straight As in junior year, including 3 APs.

Hey @golftlist. Although I won’t chance you, I will say that Carnegie does not consider your freshmen year grades, unless those grades are tied to an important, related personal issue. This I learned about from talking to AdCom.

Best wishes

@golftlist My D3 was told the same thing about freshman grades at her visit. So you might be safe on the GPA front. Plus, your grades are definitely in the right direction! And your coursework seems appropriate (they also require Bio and a couple years of foreign language)

Guessing your math SAT score is very high given the total and the subject scores. Mid 50% range is SCS 790-800 and COE 750-800.

Both are very competitive admissions. Doesn’t look like your stats or coursework will hold you back so hopefully you will be admitted to at least one of your choices. Are you planning ED or RD?

Good luck to you!

@MandomeLeft and @Mamelot Thank you very much for the information. It is a big news for me. Would you mind to share which other universities do not consider freshmen year grades either?

@golftlist you are best off selecting your schools of interest based on other factors (such as perceived fit, particular program that interests you, atmosphere of the school, campus life, etc.). Your GPA is very high even if you count your Freshman grades. You won’t be denied admission based on a 3.875 uw GPA anywhere and your trend is in the right direction. Even schools that look at freshman grades tend to weight them less than Sophomore and Junior year. And those who claim they don’t count them . . . well, you don’t know whether they are for sure telling the truth. So don’t worry about it.
