I'm a sophomore (I know it's kinda early to be doing a chance thread) looking for some feedback on whether I can get into these schools.

GPA: 4.0 UW (school doesn't let sophomores and freshmen take AP classes, so no weighted GPA yet)
Class rank: Top 5%
ACT: 35 (35 E / 34 M / 33 R / 36 S / 8 W)

APs/Honors: I'm taking AP Calc, AP Chem, APUSH next year, and AP Stats, AP Bio, AP Gov, AP Lit, and Honors French IV senior year.

ECs (both current and planned for the next two years):
Varsity quiz team (9, 10, 11, 12)
Concert Choir (President) (10) - consistently ranked well at contests
Symphonic Choir (11, 12)
Theatre - Stage managing school play; directed one-acts (which I'll do in grades 11 and 12 also)
Piano (6 years)
Model UN (9, 10, 11, 12)
Volunteered at public library (9, 10, probably 11 and 12)
Hopefully NHS
I plan on doing some volunteer work in India this summer and volunteering in a hospital within the next two years.

I know my ECs are sorely lacking - any suggestions in that area? I'm at a loss for activities that I'm interested in and have the opportunity to pursue in my area.

From what you’ve listed there, you’re probably a good shot for most of the schools on the list. UMich and Duke might be reach schools, but those are always good to have. Keep your grades up and keep taking the APs and you are on track to being a good candidate for all those schools. As far as ECs go, I’d say don’t add anymore just to add them, that doesn’t look good. Continue with the ones you are in and really be involved. If you do join new ones, join because you actually want to, not because you think you need to. But generally, just stick with what you like and keep up the good academics and you’ll be as good of a candidate as anyone! Good luck on your search!

Colleges seem to like leadership positions so go for those in the clubs you’re already in.

Where is your home state and what is your intended major? You do have a good chance for UMich.

You are definitely competitive for those schools. Your ACT score is great! Maintain a solid UW and W GPA, and get try to get leadership positions in your ECs.
Duke low-mid reach
WUSTL low reach
UMich match/high match
CMU low reach
OSU don’t know if you mean Ohio or Oklahoma but either way, low match/safety
USC match
Good luck!
Chance back? <a href=“Chance a Dorothy who wants to go to the coasts! WILL CHANCE BACK! - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1644843-chance-a-dorothy-who-wants-to-go-to-the-coasts-will-chance-back-p1.html

billcsho: I’m from Ohio! Not sure about intended major yet. Definitely leaning toward a STEM field though.
