I'm a white girl from NY, not the NYC area. The only person who has ever gone to VU from my school (to my knowledge, and according to my guidance counselor but he's not the brightest guy) is my brother.
I have 100+ hours of community services with a variety of groups
I have a job at a local pizzeria as well.

I'm also a legacy; my brother will be graduating this December from VU.
That's about it, so, chance me?

You’re golden.

Your brother had it easy compared to the selectivity the class of 2017 will have.
Grades: check
Leadership: check
EC’s: check
SAT/ACT: study, retake and get them up
Essay: needs to stand out
LoR: your teachers need to fight for you to get you in
Good luck, go Dores.

You need to get your scores up. Sorry to be harsh but they aren’t good enough.

I think you have a decent shot at Peabody given great EC’s, legacy status (VU asks about legacies on supplement, but does not require another essay). Getting the SAT score up another 100 points or so (especially the English score) would help (and should be manageable given your other qualifications), but I think you have a decent shot any ways.

I’ve signed up to take the ACT again this October. I’m reviewing every night and expect my scores to go up. Say I do well, would it count against me since there would be a large difference between my ACT/SAT scores?

Very simple, don’t submit your SAT scores. AS it is I think your ACT is good but I am not sure it is good enough. May be someone can help.

I’m using a review book and doing practice every night until I take it at the end of October, which should help a lot.

Can you arrange to do REAL proctored tests. They help a lot. Otherwise do it on your own. You need to get that exam feel when you do the tests.
