I am looking to major in Mechanical Engineering and came up with a list of colleges I might be applying to:

Reach Schools:
-Stanford
-Harvard

Possible-ish? Schools:
-University of California, San Diego (my brother lives there in Cali, I live in NJ)
-Lehigh
-Rowan University
-Lafayette
-Stevens Institute of technology

Safety-ish? Schools:
-Drexel
-BU

I'm not positive what my chances are like, and if my reach schools are impossible (Harvards engineering programs are drastically less than that of Stanford's but still), if my possible schools are possible, and if I need to shoot even lower for safety schools. But could you guys/girls provide insight as to if these are way too high for my credentials? Thanks.

bump…

bump bump bump

What is your unweighted GPA?

For engineering I think Cornell should be a better choice for a reach. But your SAT score is a little low for Cornell, Harvard or Stanford.

But I assume the unweighted should be in the whereabouts of 3.8-4.0 so I went with that.

UCSD: High match (I don’t think UCSD factors in legacies that much, plus OOS disadvantages you)
Lehigh: Reach
Rowan: Safety
Lafayette: High match
SIT: High match
Drexel: Safety
BU: Safety

sat scores are a low for harvard/stanford. good ecs though. would look for more match schools like u of r, case western; since you seem to like ucsd, maybe look into ucla or berkeley? colleges in the 20-30s should be all within your high-match zone, especially if you increase your sat1 and sat2 scores. could you chance me back?

thanks guys. bump

unweighted gpa is 3.57. the weights from all the APs i took previously

bump…

bump bump bump

Forget about Stanford or Harvard (sorry)
Lehigh is a reach
Lafayette and Stevens are a match/reach
Rowan for Engineering is not a safety but a match. It’s getting more competitive each year especially for MechE
Can’t comment on the others
