chance me exeter and andover

i am a girl applying for 9th grade--->andover and exeter, am applying for financial aid

Grades: All A's
ECs: National Junior Honors Society for 1 year, Duke Symphony for 6 years, Science Olympiad for 1 year, Chain Links club (recommended by my teacher, part of Rachel's Challenge), School Orchestra (concertmaster, and principal violist), Duke Orchestra (helping in the lowest orchestra), school show choir 1 year
Sports: Dance for 3 years
Instruments: Viola for 1 year (just started for my school orchestra), violin for almost 9 years, piano for 1 year
Interview: very good interviews, andover interviewer said i was applying for the right reasons
SSAT: 2247 (97%), verbal 722 (86%), math 800 (99%), reading 725 (94%)
Recommendations: my language arts one was awesome since my teacher knows me pretty well, i haven't gotten my math one back, but he knows me pretty well since it's a small class, personal, my violin teacher has known me for about 4 years now, and counselor, she doesn't know me too well, but well enough through teachers
Other: I'm doubling up in math, in Geometry and Algebra 2 right now, taking pre-calc over summer. Speak English and Chinese, used to take Spanish. In 6th grade, I was 10th chair first violinist in All State, doing it again this year, hopefully further up or in violas. Born in Taiwan, now a US citizen.

i know i have like no extracurriculars, but i'd prefer andover

YOU.ARE.AMAZING!!! Like without a doubt you’ll get in :)

Well you’re recs and SSATs are good, so I won’t bother talking about those. Unfortunately, the 2 EC’s that you’ve done for 5+ years are both music/arts based. Top notch boarding schools look for kids to diversify, they want kids who have art EC’s, sports EC’s and academic EC’s (I suppose science bowl counts as this, but you’ve only been in it for a year). Also, you have quite a few 1 year EC’s, you should only list the ones that you’re passionate about and consider integral to you as a person.

do u really expect to take Calc or Stat next year? I mean i don’t know you but as a 9th grader there’s no way you would be able to do well in that class. I suggest just taking pre-calc next year and move from there. I mean if you took calc freshman year you could do Stat the next year and what are you gonna do with the other 2 years? There are really no classes that would benefit you greatly. Also, if you took pre-calc freshman year your grades would be much higher

Actually, some of my friends are taking pre-calc right now and they say it’s the same stuff as Alg2 but some new concepts and recommend me to take it over summer. My best subject is math, not to brag, but I have high A’s in Geometry and Algebra 2 right now.

DEtrombone,

Dude I know this chick and she’s a genius!!!

You’re wondering what classes she’ll take in high school?
9th grade-Calc AB
10th grade-Calc BC
11th Grade-Stat
12th Grade-Calc III, Linear Algebra, etc…she has a whole lot of choices…in case you didn’t know, Exeter has like over 450 courses or something close to that sooo SHE’S FINEE!!!

dukecrzy95, that’s not quite how math classes work at schools like Exeter. Firstly, calculus AB and BC are the same thing - at different levels. At Andover, anyway, kids never take both AB and BC calc. Most kids move right onto BC from precalculus. Andover, like Exeter, also has about a million math courses. It’s rare for kids to run out of math classes, no matter how advanced they are.

As for extracurriculars, violindancegirl, what do you call all that music, dance, and science olympiad? You’ll do just fine in the application process.

tom, the point i was trying to make was that she’ll never run outt :)

Haha thanks TomTheCat that’s reassuring. I’m just hoping my essays turn out pretty good.
