I am applying to Exeter, Andover, Choate, Hotchkiss, and Lawrenceville.
I am an 8th grader.
My ssats were:
Reading 83%
Math 75%
Verbal 96%
Overall 91%
I don't know if this matters but all my ssat numbers were above 700.
I have been playing the violin for 8 years and am first violinist in my string trio and concert master in my school orchestra.
Last year I had straight A's and this year I have all A's and one B (In science)
I'm on my schools varsity baseball and basketball teams.
I am also in my schools chorus and I am in all of my schools plays and I often get leads.
I do a lot of community service through school and my religious school.
Please tell me what you think!

Nice stats, very well rounded, but your SSAT scores could bring you down. Violin for 8 years? About the same here (9 years), but you might want to list some of achievements to show that b/c you’ve been playing 8 years you’re really good. Are you doing the music supplement for Andover?

^ saying that her SSAT scores are going to bring her down is ridiculous, there is no way a 91 is going to bring anyone down.

seriously… your SSATs are fine. send in a CD of you playing the violin to each school.
gooood luck

I am sending in a CD of my music to all the schools that I am applying to. Than you for the comments I really appreciate it.

I’m to saying it will, but it could. I had a friend who got a 91% and got rejected for it. As for the music supplement, does Exeter request one? Because I know Andover asks for it, but Exeter never mentioned it, only a Musical Interest Form, but no CD.

I believe Andover is the only one that asks for it on the application, but on all of my interviews the interviewer requested it.

Exeter doesn’t say you have to have it but you are welcome to send one and a music interest form to music department. Also, they are people who have been accepted from much lower score then a 91…people in the 70’s and up have been accepted. I am sure even some high 60’s. A 91 is a great score and those schools would be lucky to have you leftyspecialist.

LOL where did that “friend” get rejected from? brearley?

an admissions officer from exeter said that if you were in the 85+ range, it was basically all the same and didn’t matter anymore. 91 is almost the average of the top schools, so what you’re saying is extremely unlikely…

No actually he got rejected by exeter, waitlisted. A 91 is great, I’m just saying…
And I’m guessing leftyspecialist is a guy? Since you play baseball and most girls play softball…

Thanks violindancegirl I am a guy. LOL

Haha sorry but when DiveAlive said "^ saying that her SSAT scores " I was thinking she? but leftyspecialist plays baseball! lol, sorry just had to clarify that.
But your variety of activites is really good

Hello again!

I appreciate everyone who has chanced me so far, but I would greatly appreciate if anyone else can chance me as well! Thanks!

We were told that Exeter and Andover become wary with any subsection<90. Not that they don’t take folks with scores like that, they do, but they look hard at that…is the student an overachiever who won’t keep up? If you are a really good athlete, that will help a lot. These schools can be very hard to read. Good luck!

thats stupid i got a 98th Overalll but my math was in the 80s… Anyone balking at me over my SSAT score would be ridiculous. kaflookey, I do realise that you said they do take kids with under 90s.

I think you have a great chance your SSAT is good and as many other people said your music passion and ECS are going to really help. Best of luck!
