UC Berkeley
UCLA

UC Santa Barbara
UC Santa Cruz
UC Merced
UC Riverside

Moved to California from Louisiana

Summer after 10th:
Took Algebra 2 online through Northwestern's CTD-Gifted Learning Links Program
Moved to a different city in California

Summer after 11th:
Interned in a lab (3 weeks, 120 hours)
Took Microeconomics and Macroeconomics at a nearby community college
Didn't move anywhere (Yay! :D)

Other volunteer work besides that done over the summer:
Library (20 hours)
Hospital (30 hours)
Some other random stuff I can't remember, so I am not including it on my app.

Awards and Stuff:
National Merit Commended
Silver Medalist in the National Spanish Exam
AP Scholar
Top Scorer at the Northwest Louisiana Literary Rally
3rd place at school science fair, went to and lost at regionals TT^TT

Aaaand that's about it. I don't think my application will fare well at Berkeley and UCLA because of my GPA and Subject Test Scores, but do I have a decent shot at the other schools? I am planning on explaining how moving a lot affected my grades, extracurriculars, and course choices (I only have 7 semesters of honors credit when I wanted to take a lot more).

UC San Diego - Depends on major. I would say High Match
UC Davis - Match
UC Santa Barbara - Match
UC Irvine - Low Match
UC Santa Cruz - Safety
UC Merced - Safety
UC Riverside - Safety

Thanks Nitsua24!

Hmmm. I’m applying as a Cognitive Science Major for UCSD. I don’t think it’s impacted.

What about for UC Berkeley and UCLA?

No prob man! But I have no idea on UCB or UCLA. And if you’re right about Cognitive Science not being impacted, I think you have a solid shot.

UC Berkeley: low reach
UCLA: high match
UC San Diego: match/high match
UC Davis: match
UC Santa Barbara: match
UC Santa Cruz: low match
UC Merced: safety
UC Riverside: safety

Thanks scderek4!

Here’s my take:

UC Berkeley: low reach
UCLA: low match
UC San Diego: match
UC Davis: match
UC Santa Barbara: match
UC Irvine: high match
UC Santa Cruz: safety
UC Merced: safety
UC Riverside: safety

Your GPA and test scores are very good (maybe not for Berkeley, I’m not sure :[) and your course load for senior year seems to be pretty rigorous, which UC’s like since it shows you’re challenging yourself and not chillaxing like many others might because it’s senior year and all :P. You also have a good amount of extracurriculars and activities, so I think it’s fair to say that you’re pretty much a match for most, if not all, of them :).

If you don’t mind, care to take a look at my profile and chance me :)? Would be much appreciated! haha
