Chance me for Andover, Exeter, Milton, Deerfield, Hotchkiss, and Concord?

mustangs-I’m pretty sure all these schools are looking for students that stand out. xD Yes, I’m aware of that, I know 5 other people similar to me, just from my school. :confused: Unfortunately, I put basically my whole life on my post here, so no, I have no other extracurricular activities that can make me stand out. :frowning: I hope I still have a chance though.

Perhaps, but OP is not “from China.” She is an American with the experience of having lived overseas for five years. I would think that would make her at least slightly more interesting than the average candidate who has never been outside their homeland. But, I’m not an AO and can only guess as to how such candidates would be treated.

dodgersmom-Yeah I guess that’s true too. Throughout the whole admissions process I was completely confused about if I counted as an ‘international applicant’. xD I still don’t know. Anyway, thank you for the encouragement. I hope that makes me a bit more unique. :)

Just to chime in to say, there is nothing special about being too young for Andover and old enough for elsewhere. Almost all of these schools have the “freedom with responsibility” issue (where kids are treated as young adults and expected to make good decisions and handle the workload), and if you are ready to be away from home and mature enough to be at one of the schools you are applying to, then it is likely you would be for any of them.

Although that is true, that is not what the OP said, rather, what her interviewer told her from Andover. I don’t even think that that interviewer can decide whether the Op will be accepted or not. Furthermore, it looks like you have a good chance in comparison to a lot of the people on CC.

@Aaralyn, you would excel at the schools you applied to, but I’m just a bit curious - Are you a Chinese-American who relocated back to China five years ago, or a Caucasian-American who has lived in China for the past five years? Anyway, I hope you do get in wherever you applied :smiley: Good luck!

Again, I don’t believe ethnicity figures into admissions decisions. Nationality - yes. Current place of residence - probably yes. Interesting background, fluency in multiple languages - I would certainly hope so!

crar24-That’s true also, I’m pretty sure all of the top-tier American boarding schools require students to be both self-disciplined and responsible, and I think I’m ready for the challenge. Thank you for taking the time to comment! :)

Exeterr-Yes, even though my parents and I all think that I’m ready, the interviewer thought otherwise. I’m not saying it’s without reason; I mean, I am younger than almost all in my grade, but I hope they’ll be able to see my maturity through my essays and recommendations. And he didn’t say I wouldn’t be accepted per se, he was more like ‘Andover might see you as not mature enough, so don’t be discouraged if you don’t get accepted.’ or something along those lines. xD Thank you for the encouragement though! I really hope I have a good chance. :)

PreppyDude123-Thank you for saying that, I appreciate the optimism. :smiley: I am an America-Born-Chinese, or ABC as we like to call it here. I grew up in America though, and currently go to an American school with the usual American curriculum, so yeah. Probably one of the only differences is that our Chinese classes have local Chinese teachers. xD Thank you for the encouragement and luck! :)

dodgersmom-Yeah, I think at one school’s reception here in China (Concord… maybe?), they specifically said they would not biase by race, age, etc. It says that on every page of their application too. xD Anyway, thank you for the encouragement! :)

@aaralyn- I can relate to your story, I’m half Japanese and half American, born in New York lived there for 3 years and have lived in Japan since. It definetly helps having the experience of living in America while going to boarding school, I go to PA and during our international orientation and the following days many people had trouble but I feel it was much easier for me to adjust. If you have any specific questions about PA don’t hesitate to ask.

mustangs-Oh really? That’s cool! Can you speak Japanese? I’ve learned a couple phrases from some of my friends here. :stuck_out_tongue: Anyway, first off, I love New York, so high-five for living there! :slight_smile: And that’s really good to know, because I don’t want to take too long to adjust to a boarding school, I want to just enjoy the experience! And thank you for the offer, if anything comes up I’ll be sure to ask. :slight_smile: I actually have a friend currently at Andover, but she’s a senior. Thank you for your comment! :)

Bump! I would love for anyone else’s opinion!

Bump! Anyone? Approximately 12 days until decisions come and I’m really nervous!

Hey so did you get in?

@salvatore;

no, i didn’t get in. i was waitlisted at all schools except for andover, who rejected me. but i will be reapplying next year, and i have confidence that i will get in! :)
