Okay so I am in 8th grade and am asian (indian) I am applying to Andover Exeter St Pauls Deerfield Groton and L'ville
I currently go to one of the better private schools in New Jersey
I play tennis and attend manhattan school of music precollege for the violin
I did pretty well on the ssat (M: 800 V:800 R:773)
My grades for the last trimester:
English A+
Precalculus/AB calc: A+
Science: A+
Latin: A
History: A
Chinese: A-

I guess my biggest thing would be that I take college courses outside of schools. I have 12 credits at Rutgers (Calc I Calc II and Chemistry) I also went to a summmer program put on by the Davidson Institute in Nevada. I got six credits there.

I know these schools are REALLY selective, so how do you think my chances are?
Thanks in advance!

Don’t panic: while you will find people who do as well at schakrab at those schools, it’s still a very small fraction of the population, and grades are far from all that these schools look for. For example, Jane Fried makes clear both in her blog and in person that Andover looks for “nice kids” as one of the top three criteria. A boarding environment with kids who aren’t so nice isn’t such a nice place to be…

You can expect that most kids accepted to the top schools will have at least one area of serious passion and ability, however.

i recently went to some Andover convention. and their associate dean of admission said that they look for kids who are nice and contribute to the Andover community beyond academics.

im a part time student meaning i take one course a semester. I took the SAT and got a 2050, but I knew someone in the continuing studies department so she set me up to take a math placement test. I placed into Calc I and it all went from there.

never mind, i was actually rejected at Andover and Exeter. I am sort of surprised as I was definitely not expecting this from all the schools I applied to

Sorry to hear you were denied. What do you think the reasons for all these rejection? Do you need FA? I hope your current school is a good backup.
