Chance me for Boston College, my dream school?

Hi everyone! BC is my #1 choice, and has been for two years. (Also applying to Villanova, George Washington, Holy Cross, Loyola Maryland and a few others). If you have any input or experience, I would really appreciate hearing from you!

National Honor Society-secretary

State or Country: NY
School Type: private Catholic
Ethnicity: white
Gender: female

I'm also considering writing a letter to admissions about BC being my absolute first choice...good or bad idea? Thank you so much!

Idk if you want to send a letter to BC about them being your #1 choice, as I haven’t heard that happening too often (though perhaps I’m wrong). You seem to have the scores, grades, ECs, rank, and recs/essays to get in. I think you have a good shot at getting in to your dream school! Good luck :)

Chance back please!

Oh, and I forgot to mention, my GPAs are estimated as close as I can do it on my own, my school doesn’t calculate GPAs on a 4 point scale, and our 100 point scale does not come close to lining up with any of the scales I’ve seen posted

A little help, anyone?

You should easily get in. The biggest drawback to BC is that nearly all freshmen and most sophomores live at a separate campus several miles away and have to take the bus to main campus for classes.

Oh thanks! I actually think the Newton campus is cute, I checked it out last time I was up there. I don’t know if I’ll feel that way after a few weeks, but I think it might make it easier to make friends at the beginning.

I agree with required_details but ONLY on his/her first sentence!!!

You are a solid match for BC, in all phases of your application. Not a slam-dunk, but a really, really good chance. Forty percent of the freshmen live off-campus in Newton and some but certainly not most sophomores. My D lived there her freshman year and LOVED it! The dorms there are a little nicer, the food is a little better (since that is where the law school students eat), but the most important reason for liking Newton is the kids have a BONDING experience like no other dorms on upper campus can offer. You are also walking distance into Newton Centre, which is a really nice area for picking up essentials, eating etc. Newton is also one of the most beautiful residential areas in all of the Boston burbs. Living there your freshman year, if you are lucky enough, will give you the COMPLETE BC experience during your undergrad years at BC. Good luck!

Thank you jshain! I had a chance to talk to a few students who lived at Newton, and they raved about it, highlighting how great it was for bonding. They all came out of it with really great friends, and they said kids they knew on the main campus weren’t nearly as close to each other. I also like that it’s sort of like going home for the day after school, it seems like it could ease the high school to college transition a bit. What did your daughter major in? I have yet to find someone in the International Studies program, and I’d love to know more about it from a student.

My daughter is a junior Accounting major in CSOM. I’ll ask my daughter if she knows anyone in that program for you to speak with.

I would appreciate that so much, thank you!

i hate to do this, but…bump.

I agree with the others who said that you are a definitive match for BC. very solid chances. and also you’re definitely set for your other schools

Waiting for the bus during bitter cold Boston winters going fron Newton Campus to Main Campus and back is a major drawback, believe me as I know several people who have complained about this aspect of BC.
