I have applied to 8 schools in total, and heard back from 4 so far.
I got into Pitt, Temple, Delaware, and Loyola Maryland. I am still anxiously waiting to hear back from BU, BC, GW, and American as those four are my top four! I am aware that all four I haven’t heard back from are competitive, so I’m curious as to what my chances are. BTW I applied for Political Science to all of them. Here are my stats!
White Male
1410 SAT
4.0W GPA (Out of 4.3)
4 APs (as many that I was offered due to the circumstances)
2 strong recommendations (1 was a government teacher I had twice, the other a science teacher I had one year and who moderated my club for two years)
Strong Common App Essay
Very Strong Supplement for BC
Somewhat Strong Supplements for the others
I don’t have many extracurriculars which is definitely what causes a lot of my anxiety about the whole college process!
I have: club basketball for 4 years, track for 10th, environmental science club for 11th & 12th (Vice President 11th, Treasurer 12th).
I also have worked 20 hours a week 11th and 12th, and received a promotion at my job which I mentioned.
I also mentioned in my applications that I had a rough transferring experience from my freshman to sophomore year which I explained was the cause of my very low class rank (when I submitted my applications I was 70th/300 cumulatively) due to credits not transferring smoothly into their correctly weighted equivalents. This was also the cause of only being offered only 4 APs throughout high school! However, I’m currently ranked 25th/300 for my senior year while taking far less APs than the students who were offered more than me.
If I had to guess, I would say BU is a reach, BC is a low reach (I do have someone who put in a good word to an admissions officer there. I’m not sure how influential they are but I’m hoping it helps even if minimally), GW and American are matches. However, I’m also very stressed because I know American is known for rejected overly qualified applicants in fears that they are just a safety (not that I’m overly qualified by any means, but my stats are higher than their averages). This isn’t at all the case for me. I expressed interest by visiting, and emailing my regional counselor. So if anyone could please give me insight it would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
You are a competitive applicant. Your ECs are pretty good and your stats are great. If you wrote good essays, you could get accepted to any of these schools
