Chance me for Bowdoin, Carleton, and Middlebury: Homeschooler

Hi, I’m a rising senior interested in applying to Bowdoin, Carleton, Middlebury, Bates, Dickinson, and Lafayette. I’m homeschooled, and have taken challenging courses throughout high school and gotten almost entirely As. (Not sure if that counts for much because I’m homeschooled).

My info:
Homeschooled all 4 years of high school
White girl, both parents have PhDs, upper middle-class
Legacy at Carleton

Academics:

  1. 4.3 weighted GPA
  2. 1400 on new SAT, 740 on Lit SAT II, 710 on Math I SAT II
  3. Have taken Calculus and Intermediate French at Lafayette College through dual-enrollement and gotten As in both. Planning to take 2 additional courses at Lafayette in the fall (physics w. lab and French)
  4. Getting recommendations from my calc and French professors, as well as the teacher of my online courses. They all liked me so I’m expecting strong recs
  5. Have done 4 years of English, Foreign Language, Social Studies, Math, and Science. 2 years of lab science including my upcoming lab physics at Lafayette. Math through calc II.
  6. My essays should be really good

ECs:

  1. Have done karate for nine years, earned first and second degree black belts. Have a paid leadership role teaching classes for younger students. Work about 12 hours/week.
  2. Played soccer my entire life. Played JV for two years in high school then club for the rest.
  3. I’m a watercolor artist and have sold several paintings (family friends + at art shows)
  4. Played piano for nine years, earned high scores at National Piano Guild for three years
  5. Involved in church community, leader in class and volunteer coordinator, youth chair to the church board

Thanks!

Nice mix of LAC’s!

Your stats looks good, but you are correct it will be harder for schools to gauge your GPA without any comparable school data or profile to compare to. How did you arrive at your weighted GPA for example – most schools have different rules for what courses are weighted. Were you using an existing online curriculum from a large, well-known home school program? If so, that may help for comparison purposes.

Your SAT scores are very good, but not above average for your more reachy schools. Legacy status at Carleton should help and applying ED to one would help.

Good luck!
