COLLEGES
Brown (my top choice...I know it's probably a pipe dream, but it seems so perfect)
UVA (I am a legacy here)
William & Mary
NYU
Johns Hopkins
Amherst
Emory
Columbia
University of Chicago
UNC

Suggestions for more schools welcome!

You show pretty good focus, and your intended major fits quite nicely with your awards and ECs.
UVA: I would be really, really surprised if you got rejected, considering you’re instate. Match/in
How many APs have you taken with respect to your school’s available APs?
UNC - You have a pretty good shot, so a high match.
William and Mary - match/in
NYU - match
Johns Hopkins - low reach/high match
Amherst - mid reach/low reach
Emory - low reach
Columbia - high reach
University of Chicago - low reach/high match

Brown - It’s iffy. You have a very competitive resume, but Brown has a really low acceptance rate. So a high reach.

Chance me back?

I like your EC’s, but how do u get those writing awards, but then get a 10 on the essay? Just wondering. But you’ll probably get in Brown. Columbia is a low reach, the rest are all matches. And also, you are a gold medalist for spanish, but got a 720 on the SAT. Some of these things just dont match up.

Thanks, Stevenf, and I’ll chance back shortly! About the APs, my school offers about 20, but we’re discouraged from taking more than 2 or 3 a year. I’ve taken/will take the average number of APs for students at my school.

Andrewsun, it’s good to know that most of them are matches, haha. I think I got a 10 on the essay because the prompt was about reality TV (which I hardly watch). As for the Spanish SAT II, 720 is a good score, not really sure what you’re talking about there.

Also wondering about this: how would my financial aid package look for most of these schools? If I do decide to go OOS without some sort of monetary help, it will be a huge strain on my family (I have siblings).

Brown (my top choice…I know it’s probably a pipe dream, but it seems so perfect)
UVA (I am a legacy here)
William & Mary
NYU
Johns Hopkins
Amherst
Emory
Columbia
University of Chicago
UNC

You’re definitely IN at UVA, NYU, Emory, and UNC. < I know people from out of state with way lower stats get into Emory, UNC, and NYU.

Columbia is a reach, but you should apply 'cause you never know. Chicago is a reach/match. Same goes for Brown. I’d make awesome essays and you might get in! I’m not quite sure with Amherst or W&M. You’re probably in at JH.

Most excellent news! Thank you for helping me out ^.^

Okay, the first time I read your post I thought you said you had a “2440” on the SAT, and I was like SERIOUSLY I AM GETTING IN NOWHERE. But sorry, chances:

As people above have said, UVA, NYU, Emory, UNC are pretty much low matches. Columbia and Brown are Ivies, which speaks for itself, but you have a good shot. Same with UChicago, but I know they’re picky and strange about their applications. Amherst is super competitive (valedictorian of my school got rejected last year), but I’d say you have a decent shot? I’d almost say it’s on par with the Ivies in terms of difficulty of getting in. JH is a match.

Roflwaffle, if only I could break the SATs and get a 2440…

Anyway, you guys are making me feel better about things…I didn’t think that most of the schools you’ve listed as low matches would be that safe (although you never know). Now I can stop freaking out as much…

I like the passion. Are you LGBTQ by any chance? You highlight that as a hook. Decent chances everywhere so long as you write the good essay I think you’ll write.

Like most other posters, I think you’ll be fine getting into most of these colleges! In fact, I think if you wanted to, you could try for Dartmouth and other more liberal arts schools. Columbia seems like a reach, and Brown and UChicago like low reaches.

Please chance me back!
