-went to South Korea over the summer and taught English to North Korean refugees
-I volunteer for the North Korean refugee organization (mentioned above) from home by translating their media into Spanish.
-helped found Womens’ Club at my school (treasurer)
-revived the Recycling Club and started a composting system at my school (president)
-AFS Spain summer exchange-I was the only one to be placed in the advanced Spanish class (I was a sophomore)
-Volunteered by playing with and teaching Spanish to Sahrawian refugee children while in Spain
-AP Scholar Award with Distinction
-National Scholastic Arts & Writing Silver Key Award for poetry
-Won second place at state declamation for AP Spanish
-Won first place for state declamation for Japanese I
-Earned seal of biliteracy for Spanish in my freshman year and in my first year of Japanese

I think my common app essay is unique- I wrote about teaching my grandma the alphabet when I was a child because my friends made fun of her, her Alzheimer’s, and how the experiences impacted my views on my identity and the world.

I am hoping for some juicy letters of rec.

Would being from Alaska or going into an unpopular major (that I am genuinely passionate in) help me at all?

You seem super competitive for linguistics, as long your essays are good as well as recs I’d say you’ll have a very good shot.
