Hey guys I’m just slightly stressed about getting in!! But I applied to the CAS as a journalism major, I’m also a first generation college student.
SAT: 1350 (660 math 690 r+w) pretty low I know
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.8
Weighted GPA: 4.4
Rank: 27/500ish (top 5-10%)
AP: I only took 5 APs including my current AP classes even though my school offers A LOT of APs
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): award winning school newspaper with 100 members (editor-in-chief), computer club (co founder and president), Latin club (Vice President junior year), agriculture program (reporter junior year), national honors society, business club
Job/Work Experience: worked at an Information technology institute for the summer of my sophomore year, worked for my local city in web development for the summer of my junior year, currently working at my local library. I also took a magazine design course at FIT in NYC.
Volunteer/Community service: this is my partial downfall, I never consistently volunteered besides my freshman and sophomore year at a retirement home
Summer Activities: ^ listed above with work experience.
Essays (rating 1-10, details): 8ish, it was just about how art helped guide me through my transition from my native country to America along with a family death and how it was a difficult change for me.
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
I waived my rights to read them but hopefully they’re good. One of them was from a teacher I’ve know for all 4 years and I’m super close with my guidance counselor!
Awards: book award in English and leadership award
Strengths: I’m first generation
Weaknesses: low SAT score, not enough APs
All in all I’m pretty sure that will be the downfall of my application but best wishes!
