Applied in 2015 as a senior in high school and got waitlisted presumably due to the fact that I had basically no EC’s and so-so recommendations (I was very shy/anxiety-ridden in high school which prevented me from participating in things and warming up to teachers). However, I did have a pretty good GPA (3.86 iirc), all honors and AP classes, etc. Decided to go to a local CC to better myself before going to a 4-year and I’m graduating with my Associate in Communications this May.
Applying to COM to continue my major in Communications w/ a focus in Public Relations.
GPA: 3.92 (All A’s and 3 A-'s so far, one semester to go but I should be absolutely fine)
SAT: 1960 (taken in 2014 before the changes)
ECs: Commonwealth Honors Program participant (volunteering, honors classes, research projects, etc.), Honors Research Project Experience participant (research paper, big presentation, poster exhibition), Student Leadership Development Program participant (volunteer work and participation in career workshops), contributor to the town’s community television channel (filmed and edited content for one of their programs), contributor to my school’s newspaper (published), “Alternative Spring Break” community service experience, elementary school volunteer from when I was in high school, Relay for Life participant from high school-now, 2 part-time seasonal jobs.
Recommendations: Going to be strong. One from my advisor who is also the director of my major’s program at my CC and taught two of the classes I’ve taken, she absolutely loves me and sees how hard I work (I got A’s in her courses and completed my honors research project with her). Another from a literature professor I’ve had twice, also loves me and thinks my work/writing is brilliant.
Awards/Honors: Wellesley College Book Award from high school, Senior Writing Award from high school, Student Leadership Certificate from CC, Writing Award for Journalism from CC, Dean’s List all semesters at CC, I’m a Phi Theta Kappa member, and I’ll be graduating as a Commonwealth Honors Scholar.
Essays/Supplements: Going to be strong. Although you can’t really tell from this mess of a post, I’m a good writer and a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to “professional” or academic writing.
I was also able to skip 5 classes at my CC due to my AP credits and college credit earned in high school (2 English courses, 2 math courses, and a Spanish course).
I’m pretty nervous due to my previous “rejection” so I just want to know if I’m wasting my time!?!?! All of the stats on this site are absolutely stellar so it scares me haha.
(I’m also applying to Northeastern (who previously rejected me), Emerson, and Simmons).
