I applied ED CALS for Information Science
Demographic: Asian, male
SAT: 2240 (Writing: 790, Math: 780, Reading: 670)
GPA: 4.18 Weighted (School does not calculate UW nor rank students)
I’ve taken 6 APs by end of Junior year and scored mostly 5s, nothing below a 4
EC: 4 years in student government, 2 year internship at national university working on research pertaining to my major, finalist in International Conrad Spirit of Innovation Challenge
I’m applying out of state btw.
You are a solid candidate and your academic rigor with all those APs looks good. Your internship is very good and hopefully that came out in your essay. On this site I’ve noticed a lot of Asian males applying to Cornell so you never know what diversity ratios they are looking for, but regardless of race you are an excellent candidate. If your essays were on-point and teacher recommendations were above average, I’ll bet you get good news in a couple of weeks.
Did you get contacted for an interview by an alum?
PS: Out of state doesn’t mean anything. Most undergrads live outside of New York.
Good luck.
Out of state can mean something if you’re from an underrepresented state, especially when you apply ED…if it’s a far away state. I’ve been told some are less likely to get accepted RD from distant states because Cornell thinks they may not attend.
Thank you for your response. I was not contacted for an interview. I hear the interview process for Cornell does not have weighting on the decision process and is not given based on merit. Is that true? Also, I live in Northern VA.
It may vary among departments, but I think for the most part, interviews are informational only and will not impact admission decisions. Not everyone gets one simply because there aren’t enough alumni to do them (or who want to do them). I don’t think it would hurt or help being from VA. Not sure. Best of luck to you.
@AspiringScho1ar I had my “interview” on Friday. As others have said, it is not evaluative and does not effect the outcome of your application - unless you are incredible rude and unprofessional. The guy I talked to just wanted to answer questions about the university and his experience there. He didn’t ask about my major or my hobbies or anything like that. He was just being a good steward for the university. If you don’t get contacted, it’s not the end of the world. Maybe the local alum in your area is too busy to reach out.
Hi! Could someone chance me for CALS (applied to food science) based on scores/gpa?
2150 SAT 680 CR 780 M 690 W
SAT 2 Chem: 800, SAT 2 Math 2: 800
AP World: 5, AP Lit: 5, AP Chem: 4, AP US Hist.: 4
All together 9 AP classes by end of senior year (took all I could)
@KaleSeed CALS is heavily fit based, your stats seem ok although Idk your gpa, which matters most. For reference I was deferred with my stats and activities.
4.0/4.0 unweighted GPA and I go to a very rigorous school. It’s one of the best in the nation.
That certainly is good. What is your weighted? Also what school may I ask? @KaleSeed
I don’t know my weighted, but I do know that I will have completed 9 AP classes by the end of senior year with all A’s. @AspiringScho1ar
@KaleSeed Can you tell me what state you’re in if not the school name? I also go to one of the best in the nation.
