I’m hoping to do machine learning at Carnegie Mellon, but I’m in-state for UIUC for what it’s worth
GPA: 3.97 UW / 4.98 W, ACT: 34 (retaking since I didn’t prepare), SAT II: 760 Bio M (retaking), and 800 Math II, but I’ll also take Chem and USH
APs: Euro (5), USH, English Language, Spanish Language, Calc BC, Chem, Bio, English Lit, Spanish Lit, CSA, Economics
Demographics: Asian male, wealthy suburbs
ECs: Math team all 4 years (“captain” and state medalist each year), Science olympiad all 4 years (captain as a senior, state qualifier each year), Debate team all 4 years (made it to semifinals of the state tournament), Scholastic Bowl (captain, 3 years), Track and Cross Country 3 years (varsity, I’m in contact with the coach at CMU for running D3), Civil Air Patrol (3 years, obtained a high-ranking officer’s position, and working on my private pilot license, as well as a real-estate drone photography business), volunteering through my library and Key Club, as well as through my place of worship and an ethnic organization, participated in an economics internship with a professor from Northwestern (I’ll be asking him for a recommendation letter), interned under my federal congressman (I might ask him for a rec letter) and also with a local city hall, founded a model rocketry club to compete in TARC (started sophomore year but president through senior year)
What things could I add to my resume to make me more competitive? And how much will demonstrated interest help my application (Information sessions w/admissions counselors, going on campus tours)?
